Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
I just think you need to read some of the builds on b20vtec.
Lots of boosted B20vtec setups making lots of power. The GSR can be boosted, but the B20 shouldn't require much if your building it for boost and high HP, where as if your building it for big numbers with the GSR, your going to need to do alot more to get it where the the B20 is at right now. 7lbs is a different animal from a 1.8L to a 2L. My suggestion is to, run the GSR for now, and do it right and build the b20 for boost with all the right parts, when you have the bottom of the B20 built. Put aside your turbo cams, and other turbo parts. slap on the GSR head, swap the cams and get a good tune. Sell your GSR bottom, and enjoy boost. |

Great work man. A GSR motor would be nice. But once you go boost get the LS tranny in it.

Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
So I sold the b16 transmission, so its between keeping the GSR or LS Transmission..I took off the clutch, and pressure plate because the b20 should be sold tonight, and I want to sell it, but have no idea if this is an OEM one, aftermarket and if so, is there a marking or something? As of now, I have not been able to find any markings...seems to be in great condition, as it was when I was driving the b20 around..Anyone need a clutch?

So this is a true GSR, body is shot as you can see, but he swapped out the motor just this year when he blew the originial one! It runs great!
https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1314881293 GSR Cluster w/9000RPM Redline https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1314881293 Also has a JDM Climate Control Unit https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1314881293 And YES, That is a SPOON Exhaust! Has a Mugen midpipe - sounds great! https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1314881293 |
Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
Tuesday was a good day to prep the motor to be pulled, which is happening tomorrow! So I unbolted everything I could with the motor in the bay, emptied out oil, coolants, fuel, and now it looks like this..

Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
I don't fully agree with one of the first comments on this page regarding b20v vs gsr on boost.
Imo b20v should not be revved hard, due to the fact that it has no oil squirters and also if you just look at the crank, you'll notice that bolts for rods/mains are smaller than gsr. Now not saying they won't hold...for time being, but gsr has better cooling for pistons and is built better. All you really need to do if you really wanna make some good numbers, is slap low compression pistons and rods in the gsr, and 350-400whp is very doable. Granted, you won't have traction...but would make a great dyno queen ;) |
Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
First He has already decided to go gsr to save money.
Second everyone who builds any b20v/lsv or any block for boost, know that the weak point for b20/b18/b16/gsr are the rod bolts & pistons, if your building for boost then those are some of the first parts that are replaced when going for more hp in any setup. Third the oil squirter help with cooling but they are not the be all end all. With all of that being said, if he's just wants to make some decent numbers he can turbo the gsr, and hope it last, but without putting the money into building it right I doesn't matter what block he turbo's. So when you look at the parts needed to make the turbo setup reliable and fast, its gonna cost him some money, or he can save money, turbo a gsr with +200k without ripping into the block, and hope and pray for the best. I just hope your willing to fix it for him when it blows, because you and me both will agree it will blow eventually in stock form. |
Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
It has lesss than 50K on it...the cluster reads what it does but this motor was replaced by previous owner when he blew the original motor. It will not be in stock form, it will be built and this is a car that will the road during summer only, and furthermore about 100kms a week IF THAT. So I think even in stock form it will handle its own due to the amount of time it will actually be used. But I do appreciate the input and knowledge.

Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
Pulled the GSR on Sunday, went smooth, just have to take out wiring, and ECU, Dash etc...I threw the original shell out this morning after I took out my suspension, will post pics tonight!

Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
I hate these arguments. and yes i know he made a decission already.
Anyways...all im going to say is, gsr being a closer to square. when you think about it, do you really want to push 10-15psi from a mid size turbo down that cylinder at 7k rpm? just logically thinking, you have less cooling, smaller bolts holding it and a lot longer rod travel. Most people do ls-v or b20-v on boost because most of the time its just cheaper than buying a gsr...or atleast thats how it was before. now these engines are fairly cheap and makes no sense in building a "bullet proof" b20. Keep in mind, to build it properly, engine should be sleeved. again, this debate never ends...but at the same time, half the people dont even understand what they are talking about |
Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
Martin its not an argument its more of a debate, but its good to have these things on the board so someone who has done there research will understand why we are saying the things we do, and come to there own conclusion.
I don't believe that sleving is a necessity unless your trying to rev to 10k religiously (w/ supporting mods), or hit more then 350+whp. Or if your already at the point of having a block that has bores that can't be used. But I agree with you, cuse at that point its cheaper to just go and buy a used block, it's true that used blocks can be found for anywhere starting at around 50 to 300. Now you say there is less cooling, smaller bolts, and longer rod travel. But you have to keep in mind that when you increase the bore size, you get to run less psi in that mid sized turbo to generate the same results, a by product of increasing the bore size is going to be less heat generated from the lower psi when compared to not boring and running a higher psi to achive the same hp goal. Anyone building a motor would not(and should not) be re-using the same small bolts that the block came with, and should be upgrading the weakest parts of b18/b20 block. I'm not going to go into details about rod length and what is ideal as every setup is going to be different, but when building you have to do what gets you to your hp goal. A specific rod length might not be the perfect number, but it might make it easier to get to your goal, just keep in mind that something needs to compansate for any changes you do make. |

So this is my new shell:
Specs: 1998 GSR Coupe JDM Front End Conversion Fully Gutted; rolling shell. The body is in great shape, has no motor or interior in it, so I can start from scratch. My last shell was a 2000, but this has the front end, motor pulled, and also a sunroof, and a true GSR shell. I sold my 2000 and bought this for half the price, which I think is worth double to begin with due to the front end. https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1317786228 https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1317786228 https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1317786228 |

https://www.torontointegras.ca/attac...ine=1317787233 This motor is being pulled out tomorrow by a friend, and will be returned sometime this weekend for a full strip down...the Hammerheads are for sale, and anything else non-motor related! |

I also got the following:
ITR Exhaust ITR Cluster JDM Climate Control JDM Air Bag Delete OEM Alternator Belt Pictures will be up soon, and also since I have the GSR at a friends house I obviously had some room for something else... Anyone care to guess? Pics will be up tomorrow!!! Hope you guys like the updates and are enjoying the build/partout thread I have! |

awesome update bud.

Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
guessing another part out car LMAO!
Awesome update. You go change those integra shells faster then I change my underwear... |
Re: MALICE'S Build Thread!
Looks great man, wanna sell me that omni throttle body, pretty please with a cherry on top.
Oh and if that pully is lightened I would stay away from using that. Lightened and light weight pulleys do more harm then good. The extra weight of an OEM one helps in reducing vibration in the crank. |
