So I picked up a set of fat 5's for a really good deal. 1 out of the 4 rimes are pretty curbed so I'm slowly grinding that one down and fixing it up.

I put some poly stripper on the rims to get rid of the clear coat


Cleaned them up after I stripped the clear coat



Than I started to sand them down

I think I still need to sand them down a little bit more and polish, but here is some of the after pics

Starting to look good! I'm about to start on my blades myself.

 

So I've been pretty caught up doing other things, but I decided to finish at least 1 rim.

I've been having loads of problems getting rid of the sand paper marks.

I can get them to shine like this:


but when I take a closer look, I notice these marks left behind from the 2000grit sandpaper





aiya, I'm not sure what to do to get rid of those marks.
I've tried two layers of polish, didnt work
I've tried resanding them again with 2000 grit but that doesnt make a difference.
I'm soo lost now -_-

Any help? XD

 

your prob using the wrong grad of paper you need a really fine, fine sand paper (my guess)

^^^did you bother reading fuzzy's thread? he used 2000 grit as well.

Hey Jay you could always try another metal polish or swirl remover...maybe even a cutting compound might smooth it out but don't take my word on it.

items required:

wet sand paper:
-400 grit
-800 grit
-1000 grit
-1500 grit
-2000 grit
beer
spray bottle
more beer
rags
mothers aluminum polish cream.
lepage polly suppa strippa
paint brush
gloves
something to scrape clear coat off
steel wool (fine)

........No didn't think so. are you all there bud??

 

As long as you didn't push too hard on the lower grit paper, as you go higher, the swirls should get less and less noticeable. Then you NEED the mother's polish to get it all out and it'll look like a mirror. The beer helps too

 

Hey Tegra, I did follow his steps, I went 400, 800, 1500, 2000 though.
I couldn't find 1000 grit sandpaper hahaha,
I'll go back to canadian tire today and see if i can find it.
I'll give it a few more trys.

If Fuzzy reads this, do you have a picture of the rims before you started polishing them?

 

hmm and you still have scratches..that's strange,
all i can say is keep going then.

 

the sanding marks you have left over are not from the 2000 gritt, they are left from the 800 grit area. pick up some 1000 gritt, sand with that, then do 1500 again, and then 2000 again and it should clear up.

I just went out and found some 1000 grit
The last time I went to buy the sand paper, they were out of 1000 grit.
I'll start over again from 1000 grit and than 1500 and then 2000 to see the difference on one spoke =)
