turbo install question

turbo install question
ok so i just bought a turbo kit for my car and i noticed that the manifold with the turbo is large and is too big to fit in front of my stock rad so my question is what is my options do i change my manifold or do i get one of thoes aluminum half rads i kinda want to keep my ac and full rad so is there a different manifold i can get that will fit behind the stock rad and fan?

As suggested a mishimoto half rad is a great solution.
Going to WeirTech for a custom manifold is also an option. I got some decent quotes for custom manifold. He could fabricate you one to clear ac components...

You don't need a new fan for the mishimoto rad. Just use one of the oem fans off the stock rad.
Can you post pics of the kit and all or most of the parts, like the manifold and turbo etc..? It will help us see what you have to work with...
If you want to keep your A/C and go turbo, it's going to be a tight squeeze. It can be done though.

My mentality is if it doesn't bolt up, I make it work, one way or another. lol

yeah i met the fpmotorsports guy before..he sold me a clutch and its pretty good..he told me about his turbo but i wasnt so sure of getting it or not because i was unsure of the quality..hopefully its a good kit..let us know on how the kit is when you install it

Not to hate on fpmotorsports, i talked to them many times, and not once have they told me any brands or even specific sizes of the turbo. For the price, it seems way way way too cheap. When you think about it, a good quality turbo will run you anywhere from 800-1300$ if not more, depending on size. How can the whole kit be priced at the same price as a good quality turbo itself?
just my $0.02
just my $0.02

^I didn't want to say anything before, but have to agree with martin.
Just be very cautious with what you buy. Make sure the person doing the install has extensive experience and knows what there doing...

i still havent installed it yet funds are hurtin and i still didnt pick up a half rad or the down pipe or the intercooler piping but i will be doing this soon plus i had to see what i ran on the track at cayuga before i turbod it and i rand 1:38 and it was my first time ever doing time attack

^So you have your: roll rate, roll center, camber, caster, ride height, tow, damper settings all optimised....???
What's your setup? Spring rates, dampers, camber, sway bars? (just curious ) What tires are you running on the track?

Oh I'm not saying I've done everything but I have f&f front strung bar cross drilled rotors and I'm running hurcules tires I'm not done yet I still want rear strut bar lower subframe and change the lower rear sway bar and I changed the lower control arms and I need a camber kit but for the setup I already have I thought it was sufficent enough but I felt everyone was making time on me on the straights

^You be surprised how much faster your lap times could be by improving the cornering speed. Higher cornering speed drastically improves average lap speeds which improves lap times.
By what you just told me about your setup, it sounds like your car is still pretty much stock. I know you asked about a turbo instal, but I love discussing and helping people with their suspension setups. How serious are you about tracking? How often do you hit the track?
Sorry, I don't mean to thread-jack...lol.

Well, it sounds like your more in it for the fun. I could type a novel on track setups, but I'll refrain from doing so here...lol.
Below are just a few pointers, things to consider before adding more power:
-Flush/bleed entire brake system with DOT4 fluid
-Upgrade brake pads & rotors (cross-drilled/slotted rotors are not necessarilly better than smooth or grooved rotors. Won't explain why right now)
-Steel-braided flex-lines (the flexible brake lines from car to clipers)
-Replace ALL suspension/sway bar bushings with poly-urethane bushings
-Invest in a dedicated set of sticky track tires on seperate rims (no larger then 15") (up to you how sticky you want to go. There's the falken Azenis RT615's which are very sticky but also streetable. There's the toyo proxes RA1's (personal fav.) which are crazy sticky, street-legal but not recommended for the street as they won't last long. Or you can go full race-slick. The choice is yours.)
I'm not sure how much of that you have already done, but the difference all those things can make is quite significant.
Because your car is a dd, you'll want to keep the spring rates low enough to maintain a comfortable ride. This means you'll need to use larger sway bars (front and rear) to control and obtain the optimal roll-rate/wheel rate for cornering.
A turbo will make you faster, by straight speed alone, but you'll need to brake harder and earlier and your cornering speed will not increase. Corner exit will suffer as putting that much power down through the front wheels while still turning is very difficult, especially using street tires.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to talk you out of doing the turbo install. I think it's cool you want to go turbo, and by all means... But I'm just trying to help you better understand what to expect.

I really like your suggestions I'm basically on the same path your talkogg aboutivebeen in the process of changing all my bushings the only thing I really need to do is get a camber kit and what I'm really leaning towards is gettif some deticated track rims and tires I learned that after I tried out the tires I'm running now but forure right now my list is a camber kit and rear sway bar and lower rear sway bar lol I work at toys r us and I'm not hooked up by my parents lol and I'm still in college lol so I buy one part at a time bur as toyour suggestions I like the idea of the brake lines and flush I'll add that to the list as well. I heard there's another track day sometime in September so I hope I see sone people out there from the forum cuz I didn't see anyone out there at least not thatt I know of but hopefully I can up my times the next time around and I'm more so concetrating on my experience and skills I need to learn from just doing it thanks for all your input

did you trim the block webbing?
maybe you can get an a/c, and p/s compatible log style exhaust manifold, and downpipe, swap it out for yours. lots of the log style fit t3/t4 trims.
the only problem with doing this since you have a kit, is you might need a muffler shop to make an adapter between the cat and the downpipe if the new downpipe is too short, or if they need to cut it if it's too long.
you could also try a slimmer fan.
good luck!

thanks for all the info on this topic when it comes to turbo's its just something i have never dealt with and it should be interesting i know i sound like a kid but im excited for the bov sound lol i found a aluminum half rad and fan and my birthday is this weekend hopefully someone will pop some bills my way lol probably not but now all i need is the piping and the down pipe which ill probably get made cuz i want the wastegate tube to also run into the downpipe cuz i read up if you dont police give you trouble and its not emission friendly or somethin like that but yea hopefully i can post some pics when i start and hope i can learn more about this

The downpipe thing, yes its illegal to have an open dump tube but so is running an open cat. Some people get bugged, some don't. I'd leave it open but its up to you.
Oh and they won't run your car for etest if you have an open dump tube.
