Even if oil is cheap and it is better for your vehicle, think of the environment. You are depleting a non-renewable resource.

As for the quality of the oil, do you plan on keeping your car much longer than 300,000km? I'm sure the answer for most ppl is no, so then why spend the extra money on synthetic oil? Most ppl sell their car after 150,000km... it doesn't make sense to me.

I used Penzoil in my VTEC Prelude and it had 300,000km when I sold it, it is still running fine. I did oil changes every 8-10,000km and used VTEC a lot. What more proof do you need?
Who are you directing your response to?

If you took a minute to do some research, maybe your information wouldn't be so biased.

Firstly, for the most part, oil is recyclable. On top of that, synthetic oil contains very little, if any, petroleum. To top that off, i would at the very least utilize a cat if i felt i'd have any serious impact on the environment.

Secondly, most service stations refer to information directly from the vehicle manufacturers. It is true, that often 5000km's is premature, but this interval is based on an average. Most newer vehicles are running more efficiently, and require thinner weighted oil, or can offer greater oil change intervals. Although, on average, there are far more vehicles on the road from the early to late 90's then there are 2009 Camry's with requirements like 0w20 wieght oil, and 12,000km intervals.

Thirdly, 150,000km's? This is TorontoINTEGRAS.ca. Last time i checked, they stopped manufacturing Integra's (with the exclusion of RSX's) is 2001. Most of our cars are well over 200,000km's. Your Prelude with MaD VTEC yO was running fine after 300,000km's? Thats great... but what was the condition of the internals? Leaks? How was your cylinder wall wear? Uneven you say? Your rings are now half the size from stock, and you were burning 1L of "Pennzoil" every 1000km's i bet. Your bearings were all shot, your valves ticked like an alarm clock with VTEC, and you blinded the car behind you with your smokescreen as a result of you hitting WOT redline. So now who's polluting the environment?

Lastly, your vehicle was stock. Many of ours aren't, and we want to protect our investments, especially when we demand more from them then initially engineered. I can bet your Pennzoil 5w30 conventional will not hold up to 5000km's of high rpms, w/ VTEC, w/ boost on a very, VERY regular basis.

Been changing my oil myself with Pennzoil 5w30 or equivalent every 10,000km since 1992. (I'm the original owner)

The 92 Integra owner's manual suggests oil changes every 12,000kms.

Now past 320,000kms without any engine problems.

Not a VTEC, but still push the engine from time to time.

Just started to burn a little oil, but nothing serious.

I usually change the oil when it starts looking thick & dirty.

It does rev much nicer with fresh oil. (Never changed my 5sp oil yet!! Still shifts great)

i use castrol synthetic motor oil 5w-30 with tough guard oil filter. how often i shall change the engine oil and filter? i have read in couple of places thats state shops lie to people about chagning engine oil every 5000 kms. anyhow, according to my integra owner's manual oil replacements can be done around 12,000 kms under normal conditions but i am not sure that is any good.
ps. its 96 rs with b20b motor 5spd.

u can go by a manual but at the end of the day i think u have to make the decision if you go crazy runing ur car, oil will burn faster but if u go easy on ur driving oil can last a bit longer, so take your time to check ur oil from time to time and dont think b/c a book says that 12000 kilometers is going to be safe the oil WILL actually not last u that long.

(and thanks guys for all the coments i have been reading alottttttttttttttttt)
