Yeah the stock motor. I'm not boosting it until the end of the year (September). It just a "when I get bored" type of project so it could be done before then, but all my money right now is going into getting something else :GrinDev:

Battle of what, who's gonna be done first? I think we know who wins that.;)

I'll even help you build your motor :finger:

Hahaa we will see about that:P i might be picking up my b16 this week. But mine definatly wont be anything pretty to look at for a while.

But definatly great job with yours and yours is defiantly getting alot more man hours in the motor then mine will.
And thanks for the offer i might have to give you a shout one day :D

WildoutWhiteGSR 03-26-2007 06:51 PM

Engine will be coming home this week from the machine shop all cleaned up and ready for me to begin the re-assembly. Will take pics once it's home.

Right now the block is done, the head is done and the valves are done. Just waiting on the crank to come back from micropolishing; then the rod's being checked for bore alignment and having the arp rod bolts installed.

TwoSix 04-01-2007 03:18 PM

looking good T!

did u stay within your budget for all this?

WildoutWhiteGSR 04-01-2007 03:23 PM

Lots of respect go out to Bryan and Fuzzy for lending a hand in helping me put together this motor. Without Fuzzy's help in putting together the head, I would have spent another 2-3 hours alone on it. Thanks to Bryan I didn't go crazy plastigaging all the bearings with the girdle in the way, causing so many issues trying to torque down the rod bolts.

In all we started at 11pm on Friday and finished at 4am Saturday. Cheapest build I've done yet.

$470 for machine work
$120 for rod and main bearings
$75 for ARP rod bolts
$40 for all the gasket's in the head and a FREE timing belt

Install into the car will probably happen next weekend and I will update the thread then with more pics.

Yeah pretty much. Got carried away, as usual, because you want to replace everything, even though it's not needed. Anyways did a valvejob on the head and valves and got arp rod bolts so if in the future I decided to rev it to 9000rpm, the bottom end will hold up. That would of saved $160

Anyways added the prices above

B18C5er 04-01-2007 03:36 PM

as usual, I am impressed. Good job guys. I gotta learn how to do all that stuff. It seems so interesting and gratifying.

Reza 04-01-2007 08:20 PM

nice build. Is Boost in the near future for that little thing?

FuzzyLS BRO 04-01-2007 08:42 PM

i hate you trenell. i wish my motor was that cheap and i wish that my valve springs went in as easy as yours too. it was actually pretty fun to put that head together.

Fuzzy > SOHC valvesprings.

Solid GSR YO 04-01-2007 09:33 PM

Damn awesome work guys, i like how you have your own pit crew :)

RajunCajun 04-02-2007 01:50 PM

Damn, I would pay just to watch you guys put that together. That's crazy, good job guys.

FuzzyLS BRO 04-02-2007 03:21 PM

^between making fun of eachother, throwing things at eachother, swearing, and teaching the chineese guy to speak like a carribian; it was pretty fun..haha

Okay, so I've been extremely busy with work, car ---- and just trying to catch up on things in general, but the engine has been in the car for the last 2 weeks. Oh and here's the kicker, it's not in my car! Yup that's right, the motor Me, Bryan and Fuzzy built has been put into "Putt, Putt"

Anyways here are some of the pics.

That's it for now, I forgot my camera the second day, which was the install day, so I'll take pics of the motor in the engine bay this weekend.

Overall things went pretty well, we mixed up the valvesprings intake and exhaust, but got that fixed.

I would like to thank Bryan (engsr) and Jason (FuzzyLSBro) for there hard work and time put into this motor, they're was a lot of cussing, swearing, tools lost and found, some still missing, a lot jokes and experience gain from these two days.

Bryan and Fuzzy can add anything I missed. Bryan would have to update this thread with the overall impression of the motor, since he's the one that gets to drive it daily.

FuzzyLS BRO 04-20-2007 11:04 PM

that was another crazy install, but we got it all done, hands down one of the biggest projects we tackled in such a short period of time. i'm always down to lend a hand, learned alot of ---- too myself.

canttx 04-21-2007 03:21 AM

good stuff guys. did you end up finding a replacement midpipe? and hows the motor running?

Great! So has it been revved to 9000 rpms?

WildoutWhiteGSR 06-16-2007 12:38 PM

The motor is still running strong till this day.

Tell me, why would we rev the car to 9000rpm?

canttx 06-16-2007 03:41 PM

isnt that when vtec kicks in?

+1....u guys should start hosting "how to build ur motor" classes for us guys who know squat about building motors lol. I know i would be down for that :yeah:

engsr 06-17-2007 02:28 PM

Compression test from a few weeks ago showed 210, 210, 190, and 185. Normal compression is around 170-175, I believe, so the motor is still breaking in. For what it's worth, I did the second oil change today - about 5000km after installation and the first oil change (after about a week of driving - 300km or so). No surprises in either change - ie. no shavings or anything. Still burns some oil here and there but that's because I drive the car harder on occasion.

It's good to know that the motor sounds good and runs really strong. I have zero worries about falling apart or blowing up, which I couldn't say about the old motor. And some know of the shenanegans of the old motor ...

Again thanks to Fuzzy and Trenell (especially) for getting me out of a serious jam - couldn't have done it without your help.

WildoutWhiteGSR 06-17-2007 03:14 PM

No problem Bry. I hook up BRO'S.....BRO!

Oh yeah btw the compression test was 210, 210, 210, 200,
Your numbers are just a touch off...

Max accordding to the helms manual is 180 - 185 from my memory, so its still breaking in.

You still need to wash it and clean it :loco:
