vvt-i is much more advanced than standard VTEC. oil pressure thats pumped to the cams actually change their position from eachother and so the intake valve actually is already opened at the same time as the exhaust is getting ready to close(sort of an advanced timing). and i believe it fast heats the cat so in order to reduce emissions.

wtf.......vvti is the same ---- as vtec same ---- different smell....i dont care what n e one says its the same concept ..both are designed to squeeze out as much hp out of a small motor without oversizing parts and etc. etc...a bang for a buck.........." go boost or go home"

um, yes they both adjust valve timing but unlike your "vtec" vvti is controlled by the ecu all the time. Its always adjusting itself.

and vvti wasn't necessarily meant for hp gains.. more fuel efficiency than anything.

^ exactly.... VTEC is just one +12V signal from the ECU to pump the oil and lock into high cam profile, thats it. VVT-i constantly adjusts based on engine conditions and rev ranges.

in some of the later models of the 4age motor, vvt-i is disabled and better gains are attainable since fuel economy is thrown out the window.

VVTL-i = i-VTEC

Found only on the 2ZZ-GE motors that power the Celica GT-S, Matrix XRS, Corolla XRS and Lotus Exise and Exige.
