The Type R has more power and shorter gear in the tranny then the GS-R.

I heard the GSR is a better motor though... stronger and can handle more power..

The B18c R is pound for pound a better motor.

It has counter weights on the crank so it is more balanced when revved high, thus leading to less vibration.

The pistons have a coating to reduce friction along the side walls.

The head has better components lighter weight valves, slightly higher lift cams, etc.

Shorter geared transmission, w/ an lsd.

Maybe your buddies meant, that a GSR swap is better on your wallet.

The Type R is better then the GSR in every way (with the exception of the price tag).

I could go into the finer details, but its been covered time and time again... every component has been engineered to meet higher tolerances, speeds, compression, and heat... all while retaining Honda's quality and reliability.
