Default 96 LS B18B needs alittle more

I just got this. Just would like to know a couple of things. it has 205000 miles but is very solid. The only problem I found is the ABS pump surges every now and then at a idle. Not sure why?

1.What are some of the other common problems with these?
2.Other then A CAI and exhaust what other power-ups can I do(with out a swap)
3.How strong is the automatic tranny?

you can get a set of cams for it, cam gears, light wait pully, intake manifold.

Can you give me some website to get them. And some ideas on what to buy? I'm new to this stuff. Thanks

Well you can check out are Vendors like Toronto JDM, as they would be about to get you parts for your engine. Skunk2 makes some nice parts for these engines.

hmmm not sure i would want to start dumping money into a motor with 330,000km on the clock.

Cams, cam gears I/H/E and tuning would probably only yield around 15-20WHP, but cost you $1200-$1500 easy.

For that money you could almost piece together a basic turbo kit, which would add a very significant 100WHP or more, but then your automatic tranny/motor may not be able to cope.

turbo is not the answer to everyones power problems. i htink in most cases if a car feels faster the driver will be happyer get the extra 15-20 hp maybe do a ls/vtec

15-20 whp is very optimistic for a few bolt-ons and cams. This is not a large displacement v8 engine.

Skunk2 stuff sucks, the ONLY skunk2 stuff I would use would be their cams.

I/H/E, cams and tuning will cost a lot more than $1500. You have to consider the labour of installing everything and the upgraded valvetrain required to run larger cams. Not to mention the price of tuning, which can easily cost $500-1000 alone.

Auto tranny's KILL power on a honda. I'd say your wasting your time/money modding an automatic honda.

Guess I'll just keep it as a daily driver. It does get 27 mpg. And I'll save to buy a better fixer upper. Thanks for the input.

i swapped a 95 teg from auto to manual.
Need entire pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder and line to slave, flex line, manual tranny with half shaft, some wiring on shifter done, shift linkage, clutch and flywheel. Also bought a auto/manual tranny mount from hasport when i did it as well.

took about 6 hrs with a buddy, and worked well when it was all done. although at the price of used cars today, you would be better off just buying a manual trans teg. WAY faster than auto.

yup yup...never going back to AUTO for a weekend car

although a lot of the highend luxury coupes these days have crazy auto transmissions that are faster than manual... (ie. GTR)
