Default Strange Lighting/Stereo Problem

Hey everyone, I got a mind twister for you.

The JVC deck in my dad's car is acting up. Basically, what it does is this: functions absolutely fine when the DRL's are on and the **** controlling the headlights/illumination in the car stays at it's "off" position. When you say click it up to go from DRL to normal headlights, the deck goes silent, BUT still stays lit and menu functions work and all. No sound at this point.

I can't for the life of me figure out what could be the problem, I just went through wiring and nothing seems to be wrong there, and there's nothing else that seems wrong electrical-wise with the car. (EDIT: it was working fine up till a couple days ago when this came up, and has been doing it since.)

Electrical problems. Making someone who's normally electrically competent feel clueless

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Dave

LMAO!!!! I have this exact problem in the protege...okay well before I got my car I put a JVC Deck into my protege but never used a wiring harness found all the right slots ect..to get it to work properly without a wiring...anyways so the deck came out of the protege and a new one went in a Sony deck wired up the same way no wiring harness...out came the Sony deck and in came a Kenwood this time with a wiring harness. Radio and all function work perfectly but when you turn on the car the stereo works perfectly for about 5 seconds then turns on Bluetooth mode...when the night time lights get turned on the radio works no problem except for it turning on the ATT mode which you just have to turn up...

Now after reading that you have to same problem I think it has to do with the wiring harness itself. Because there were two different decks in the protege and it had no problem when it was wired directly. I would suggest trying to find a wire diagram of the radio on the net without using a wiring harness and try it that way.

Good Luck

Thanks Paul, I'm glad I have some sort of direction here. When I initially installed the deck, I followed the wiring schematics for the car and compared them to the deck's included harness and soldered the wires to where they should go.

Interestingly, the problem is that it's only started to do it after almost two years of working fine. In my case the night time lights being turned on means no sound comes out from any of the modes...
