Startup after 2 years
I'm about to install a b18c that has been sitting for over 2 years, I wanted to know if any of you have tips, I'm going to be doing the install in about 2 weeks. I wanted to know if I should remove the spark plugs and put a bit of oil into the pistons before I try and crank it over. I was able to turn the engine over by hand a few months back and it seemed to be smooth.
When people get a new motor sometimes the motors are sitting longer then two years and they still get them installed and fire them right up and everything is usually okay. When i did the swap i didnt put in any oil to the pistons and everything was running okay.
If it's been sitting that long, I'd pop the valve cover and pour some oil over the cams. Friend of mine built an engine and left it sitting for over a year, when he went to start it, because all the oil ran down and settled it messed up the cam and he had to get a new one... Just something to think about.
It's a b18c, so it has oil squirters. The pistons/cylinders should be fine.
Good luck!

The car is finally out of the garage, I put it on stands about 1 foot off the ground to give me some access. I opened the hood and noticed a problem, it looks like some mice had a party, after trying to find the location I finally removed that peace of plastic that is under the wipers and my god I found a massive mouse nest in the hole that is used to pull air into the car, I removed the glove box and looks like I will have to replace the fan or see if I can clean it because it was covered with mice **** and ----.. nasty!! Uhhh..
Anyways I wanted some info from people who have installed a b18c, I wanted to know if I should remove all the engine mounts from the engine and then attach them when the engine is inside and on the hoist or lave all the mounts in place on the engine and just attach them to the fame as I lower it into place?

I had them attached to the motor and as I was lowering it in with the hoist I then attached them. Make sure the tranny mount lines up before proceeding with the rest don't bolt it in first but make sure it's in the right spot and then do the 2 on the sides. That's how I went about with mine.
Uhhh stated the install at 8 by 9 I gave up it was getting dark so I packed it back into the garage.. I cant seem to get it to line up, I remember for some reason it was much easier removing it
This how I have it attached to the hoist.

Should I remove the mounts from the engine pictured below in red? The one at the back of the engine I think is going to be a major paint to re-install. Should I tilt the engine on its side and get the tranny mount installed 1st and then tilt it back to the other side and just place the engine mount in place and put the bolt in? Some tips would be much appreciated..

tilt the tranny side in first and lower it untill the motor is on the ground, pull it back up into place, and try to get the drivers side mount in place. Then try and get the passengers side, once you have the two sides on the front and rear should be easy.
I'll try it again this weekend if I have some time, I'll see if I can get a 3rd set of hands, I was doing to try and install it myself but that's next to impossible. I had help from my brother a few days ago but it was getting dark and after the 1st few attempts the ending was getting snagged, last thing I need is more problems. Thanks for the tips I'll update after my next attempt.
Or if you have a strong enough hoist you can leave the motor on the ground and hoist the front end of the car in the air, lift it over the motor and lower the cars frontend down over the motor. With the car back on the ground, connect the hoist to the motor and raise it untill you can bolt the left and right mount into place.
Get it done, I want to see finished pics!

Trust me I want to get the car back on the road bad.. its been in the garage for over a year now, and I have been diving a mini fan.. ohhh the shame LOL...
I have had that car for 10 years now, only seen winter the 1st year I had it other then that it was rust sprayed and stored in a garage, to this day is had no rust. I miss it
LOL

OK well I got the **** in.. but I have a problem. The mount that is on the back after the engine was installed I cant get that thing in. "thats what she said" anyways can this mount be installed with the engine in? Can I just loosen the side mounts and tilt the engine? Or do I have to pull it out again??!?!!

two things you can try, first one being pull the motor up from the drivers side mount and till it untill you can line up the rear mount.
second being drop the motor onto the ground unbolt the rear mount from the motor put the motor in place and try to bolt it up after you have the two side mounts in place

I had to make sure that all the bolts on the engine and transmission mounts were lose after that the engine was able to tilt about 3-4 inch and I was able to sneak in that bracket. Now I have to do all the plumbing, I sure I will run into more problems
Well I got all the plumbing done this weekend and wanted to start the car and then store it for the winter but I ran into a problem, the ECU harness adapter does not fit, 2 of the 3 pugs fit. I'm running a 1998 GSR with a 2001 ITR engine, does anyone know if this is the adapter that I need?

But man $200!! uhhhhh also I was told this ECU has an immobilizer, I assume the keys have a chip on them? Would a dealer be able to program a key for me? Would that even work? I assume that 2001 ITR have a chip reader in the ignition tumbler?? Any help is appreciated.

You don't neccsarly need a different key. You just have to find out where the immoblizer is programed to. Sometimes it's just a switch and sometimes a button on the console. That's the way I think it is done. At least mines like that well kinda I have changed my ecu and I still have the immoblizer and works no problem.
So after a few months I finally got the car up and running, had a few small problems but so far managed to get them all fixed. The problem I'm having now is that when I start the car the RPM does not move its stuck at 0 anyone know what the problem could be.
