shift.
hi all,
just got done an engine swap by a pro mechanic. got a problem here though, my friend says its related to car battery but i just wanna double check. i can shift into any gear smoothly when the car is shut off. i can't shift into any gears easily when car is running/idling but when i tap on the gas pedal only then i can shift into required/desired gear. also, i can shift easily while in motion into any gears. does it really have to do anything with battery? p.s. earlier the engine wouldnt start until i pushed the gas pedal couple of times.
p.s. clutch looks fine. its new and so is tranny.

take it back and ask whoever did the swap but the only thing i can think of is that your clutch is not fully disenaging and your trying to get into gear but when you rev it your almost shifting clutchless just matching your speeds of your input and counter gears so it makes the shift just not smooth

i dunno whats wrong man. i took it back to the mechanic and told him the shifter was never this stiff/rough and all he told me was when he did the engine swap he opened the tranny and clutch, sanded and cleaned the clutch so therefore the clutch dropped due to cleaning which is normal and that is why ur shifter is not like before. Sounds B.S. i dont have any cable issues either becuz its hydraulic clutch, one mechanic told me it might not be sitting properly, the clutch. anyhow, this morning it wasn't starting at first attempt but it did when i lowered the handbrake and i dont think it has any connection with that. also shifter feels perfect when car is in motion i can shift into and forward gears or proper gears. and sometimes the shifter feels so smooth..i drove it to montreal and got back realized shifter is smoother than before. anyways at the moment i am so broke to pay for any other repairs. i dunno if changing clutch oil should resolve the problem one guy said my clutch oil looks dirty. by the way is battery in any way related to shifter or clutch, currently i am running 2 12inch subs from the battery and headlights and dashboard lights dim when i am cranking my subs. i know i need a capacitor but thought its battery causing the problems. sorry i am car noob.
thanks

no battery can't cause that you just need a capacitor and your lights wont dim. Clutch fluid is just hydraulic brake fluid same as in your brake lines and it wont caus this unless there is air trapped in somwhere in the line from your clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder wich deactivates the clutch pressure plate. Sanding the flywheel is not going to cause this either so i dont know what he's talking about. Hand brake also has nothing to do with starting the car.
