Default power window problem

Hello all,

I have a 1998 integra and the driver side power window does not work. As an aside, the passenger window works.

Here are the symptoms:
1) I could hear the motor spinning
2) The window does go up but really slow and I have to help it up with my hand to shut completely.

How do I ensure or differentiate whether this issue relates to the motor or the regulator?

The dealer charges $270 for the motor and $125 for the regulator with about $144 for labour. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

Thank you.

Is it just when the window goes up it's slow? Or is the window slow when it goes down as well? Perhaps it's the tracks that the window slides on - the rubber stripping could have partially fallen off and is blocking/slowing the window when it's moving. Or maybe the tracks needs to be re-greased.

It is much slower on the way up but rolls down at a pretty acceptable rate. Albeit - slower than the passenger window.

My guess:

The tracks that the window slides up and down on could be either dirty and need greasing, or one of the rubber strippings along the straight part of the glass has fallen off or gotten caught somewhere along the track, or maybe both.

The rubber stripping is a common problem with these cars - over time the adheasive eventually wears out and it falls off the track. I had replaced this a few times on my old GS-R and one time I messed it up putting it back on the track, and the window would roll up slower.

That's my suggestion - take the door panel off and take a look inside.

Grease away, and it will fix your problems.
