Oil Filter question
So I changed my oil the other day, and it is now leaking from the oil filter. I had a hard time taking the original filter off, almost like the filter that was on there was too small.
I don't want to put silicone on it to patch it, so what I'm looking for is how hard would it be to change the part that the oil filter screws onto?
Or any other ideas would be great

The filter threads on to a short tube which is threaded into the block. The filter seals directly against the block, so there's nothing to replace.
When you removed the old filter, did you check to make sure the rubber gasket didn't stick to the block?
Make sure you put on the correct filter and that it's not cross-threaded.

shitty, I was hoping the filter threads could be replace without needing to touch the block.
Yea it was clean before I put on the new filter, it was the correct filter, and it didn't cross thread.
I have been checking everytime I stop the car to see if there are any leaks and it seems to have stopped.

its hand tight, and I did clean around it before I put it on. I was thinking that the filter that was on there before was the wrong size because of how much trouble it took me to get it off.

Sometimes the filter is hard to get off. Doesn't mean it was th wrong size. If you still have the old filter, check and see if it was the correct one.
Oil cooler is really not neccessary at all. But if you really want to do it, go for it.
What brand filter did you put on? I've heard of filters leaking at the seams... It's possible you got a bad filter with a defect.

I was just trying to think of something that would fix this little problem.. I'm leaning towards doing an LSVTEC swap, so not only will it serve a function later but it will maybe solve this strange issue.
Oil filter is in the trash already, I put on a fram extra gaurd
Its not longer leaking but a more pressing issue has come up, I have a headgasket leak, very little one, but I know its there, as I have some milky residue in my coolant.

^^^ aw man I hear you on that one I was driving with my head gasket leaking for quite sometime now...and just now did I realize it is completely done and was pretty much out of oil.

what was the part number on the filter you put on.
it should be PH3593A or CPH3593A if you bought it crappy tire.
fyi: a PH7317 will also fit. they're used on 01+ civics. same thread, just smaller capacity. it'll increase oil pressure.

i know a lot of people who uses fram including myself and never had any problems so far knock on wood. but i heard a lot of oil filters are rebadged frams? i think to myself as long as you do your oil changes on schedule you should be fine.

actually, fram and ctire filters are made in the same place. just rebadged. kind of like the new vw minivan, same car as the caravan, just slap some badges on and jack up the price.

You're right on the rebadge but if you don't believe me about fram filters, google it. You'll see tons of forums spilling they're hate for them and why example: http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69795 I can't remember where i was reading this thread but someone opened a fram and compared it to an OEM, it looked like complete ***.

All Fram Oil Filters, (not air filters) come from one manufacturing plant in China. A friend ofmine was there years back and was looking to have his "own line" of filters. They gave him a 50 page illustrated catalog of all the oil filters they make. Fram, Motomaster, Quaker State... all were made there.
Are they THAT horrible? No they are fine for street cars. I have used them for 20 years now without issues. I change my oil every month on my DD and every track session on my track car.
Is OEM better? Depends on where the OE dealer has them made.
For the best aftermarket fileter I could suggest Wix Gold sold by Napa.
Nothing wrong with Honda filters axcept the price! Ask for a 25% discount if you buy 6-pack... they should do this as tehre is a big markup on filters.

I've been using fram oil filters ever since I bought my civic nearly 5 years and 165,000kms ago and I have never once had any issues. I run synthetic up to 15,000kms+ between changes on a single fram filter and even run my wife's kia with regular oil up to 10,000kms on a single fram filter. No issues, ever. I even ran fram filters on the vehicles I had before the civic.
I've always liked them because I can grip them with my hand, they are not expensive, they work well under the fairly abusive conditions I've put them through and I will continue to buy them.
Do I give a crap if they are made at the same factory in china as 5 billion other filter brands? No. Why? Because they work well from what Ive seen throughout my many years of experience.
