Default Need help...emission failed...

I just got an oil change and got an emission right away. Ive been told to drive it and red line it to clean the old stuff out. But the inspector told me that he will run the car for a while. and the car failed HC, CO, NO....
Im think need to replace the fule filter, plugs/distributor...

any suggestions?...i dont really want to pay diagnose test for 90 bux....so i plan to fix it myself hoping its just some maintenance problem.

i've been told that running a half tank of high octane before your test will help.
also CT sells an e-test helper for your fuel (though i think it pretty much does the same thing as the high octane.

plugs, maybe fuel filter, wouldn't worry about the dist, or plug wires (unless you really want to)
what shape is the cat in?
o2 sensor ok?

wouldn't worry about thoase last two until you've done the more minor stuff.... they can get a little pricey

HC - just 5 points over ....CO half over ....NO - double

1997...it runs perfectly and doesnt feel like it has anything wrong....
maybe the fuel filter might help...im still debating about the plugs/dist....last year this car past with flying colors....i guess it wasnt maintained well after that.
HC- i guess changing the plugs
what about the CO, NO????

Uhhhh, be careful before you decide to use SeaFoam, it is truely a hit or a miss. Google it there are a lot of testamonials and horror stories, be careful if you want to go that route.

change your cat and you will pass guaranteed, been licenced for 4 years now doing that crap (well currently not doing them as im a bum at home lol).

but yes i will tell you right now change the cat and do it and you will pass.
things i have always done were plugs and oil change and it never failed me but you have a cat issue, also even tho it dont matter cause the cat is poop, if you haven't changed your plugs yet you might aswell do so.

opo (dustin ) had same probs with his civic and i told him it was cat, he went to my old work i changed the cat and she passed.

but yes who ever told you anything about redlining the car cause its good, go find him and smack him in the back of the head.

If you failed them all, your engine needs a tune up, and maybe a cat.

And what size and make you want to get. You can go to Parts Source and get Magnaflow cats, for like $60-$80.

my civic failed nox, turned out it was just dizzy timing, to far retarded. advanced it slightly, and passed no problems.

The cat was the reason you failed in the first place.
