Default motor swap help

Here it goes...got a 94 teg rs and i got everything done to it that I want other than under the hood....suspension, cosmetics, brakes etc...you get the idea. Im not overly technical, but I know a bit, so english please and not vulcan

I want more power so I am considering doing a swap. I dont plan on tracking the car, just want VTEC and harder pull for daily driving. I'd like to hit over 200hp to the wheels as a goal (nice even number I guess).

I know theres some knowlegeable ppl on this forum, so what I am asking is what to do to get that kind of power.

type r?
gs-r?
ls-vtec?

my goal is to do it all at once, so info on bolt-ons/non-bolt on parts to acheive 200+ hp would help. Ideally i'd like to know a complete set up that will acheive my goal.

I have a budget of 5K and I dont want to go the forced induction route yet.....

Ladies and Gents, suggestions please?

i went b20-vtec, and i hit over 200, u can achieve 200 with a stockish b20 vtec with good bolt ons for that budget... (good header, good exhaust system, intake mani and throttle, upgrade your fuel system, lighter flywheel, etc... the only main thing to change on your motor would be cams and cam gears for better tuning.. u can leave your stock valvetrain with milder cams)

200 whp is a pretty big number.
Your B18B will do it no prob with a turbo setup,
or can grab a GSR or Type R with basic bolt-ons, but you'll most likely be shy of 200 whp.

if you wanna stay NA then i'd go with ls/vtec or b20/vtec. you can build one for half the cost of a type-r swap. LS would be cheaper than b20. if turbo is an option you could also consider that. depends on what you wanna spend

yea ive heard of ls/vtec setups properly tuned hitting 200 whp...and im sure you could build that with even more performance enhancing parts with that 5k budget...

but if you are planning on going forced induction in the future, why not save yourself some money, take some time and plan it all out now...no point in doing an n/a setup, then having to change over ---- for your fi setup...

save yourself time/money and go FI if you want to...

All this feedback is great. Thanks folks...only reason i'm kind of hesitant about turbo is all the horror stories of ppl blowing their ish up with improper set ups, and since i'm not overly technical, just kind of hesitant.

Dont know exactly, but how does an ls vtec conversion work...

keep the feedback coming ppl

Mate an LS bottom end with a VTEC head.
other than wiring for the correct ECU, you've
also have to tap in to the oil for the VTEC solenoid.
Golden Eagle makes a conversion kit, that sandwiches
between the oil filter and block.

I got a bone stock JDM ITR motor from the guys at --------, and it made 175whp, with OBDII. With some tuning and some bolt ons, I don't think 200whp is out of the question.

How has reliability been for you? Have you had any issues with the work done? How long ago did you do your swap? I've heard good things about --------, but its always nice to hear from someone who used them.

Yea, I bought the whole front clip of a JDM type r from them. They arranged for ART motorsports to do the engine swap, and then ms collision to do the front end work. Everything was done on time and came out great. It was all done back in August, and I've had no problems at all, I've even taken the car on a couple trips to nova scotia since, and no issues at all. It was great. Nick and Eric are awesome to deal with, I dropped off the car and they took care of everything and it came out great, I'd highly recomend them.

I think with ls/vtec you'll end up with more torque that with type R, and about the same peak power..
