Default k&n air filters

okay guys in case you dont know imma tell you that im new to all of this integra business..

anyways today i went to part source to buy my integra some spark plugs.. i noticed a advertisment there for k&n filters.. i asked how much it is and the store employee told me its $110.. so my jaw dropped... why are the air filters so damn pricey.. is it really worth for me to get that or do you guys suggest something else...

do you guys even have a k&n air filters on your tegs?

thats strange... i have a k&n on mine and i'm pretty certain it didn't cost that much.

are you sure it was just the filter and not an intake? can't remember what i paid for mine.... it was a while ago

not anything majorly noticeable, its just an intake so it does give some pep, but not really a lot. but yeah i haven't had any problems at all with it.

i have the drop in one(oem style replacement), cost $90. you clean it once a year so you don't have to keep buying new filters.

you're supposed to check the air filter everytime you do an oil change, and replace if necessary...

i'd recommend the AEM dryflow filter, which i got for $57. and since its dryflow, it doesnt use oil like k&n and many other brands out there, and also outperforms them.

Heres a link for a pdf file at aem's own website. this test compares the dryflow filter against many other competitors including k&n. take a look yourself:

More like $120 + tax from crappy, its a rather large cone filter, maybe thats why they charge more. I paid $90 tax in from a small performance shop, I think thats about as cheap as you can find.

K&N drop-in is the one and only mod I have done to my car, sounds awesome (you need to take out the resonator) and does add a bit of pep.

I use the cheap ractive cone filters and never had a problem with them at all, and they are like $25. The K & N work very well and last long, but they are pricey.

Yeah, i used to have a reactive one, then upgrade to the aem dryflow. never had an issue with either, and there cheaper. i regularly checked my intake pipe for like dust residue on the side and there was none. and it was on a cold air one, so more ---- gets in there.

I have had 3 cars with K&N filters: 1 drop in cartridge and 2 with K&N Intake and Cone filter. All came with the cars when I bought them, so they weren't my decision. Never had a problem with them but I don't know that they made a big difference.

Since I had multiple cars with these filters I bought the K&N cleaning and oiling kit when it was o n sale at crappy tire. I have no reason to believe that the cleaner is any more effective than dish detergent (although it does appear to rinse very thoroughly with no residue) or the oil is better than motor oil but I figured it was very little to pay for the purpose built product.

Anyhow does cleaning the filter make any difference? It certainly washes out a lot of dirt. Is it better than a paper filter? I dunno, but certainly the cotton material is stronger and maybe easier to control for pore size or whatever you call it.

I think they are perfectly reasonable filters. Maybe a $100 lifetime filter is better than a $15 filter every year.

But will it give you 7HP or get your 1/4 mile under 14 seconds. No

I'm considering getting an AEM dryflow, I have a short ram air that came with the car, and the K&N filter on it has certainly seen better days. It's quite dirty, and the front of it is somehow bent.. I'd personally rather have a dryflow

The only reason the K&N filters are worth the money are that you can re-use. I've used them on a few cars and no matter how dirty they got, once I cleaned them, they were like brand new.

I have a k&n air filter in my car on my short ram. It's a good filter, buy the cleaner and oil spray as well.

Spray cleaner and let it soak for 10 minutes, rinse with running water from inside out, let it air dry completely and then spray oil.
