so im trying to clean up my tranny maybe paint it and pull it off the engine...

so far im having maaaaaad truble removing the speedometer cable from the tranny at least i think its the speedo cable i had to rip it out of my fire wall because it was so hectic and i was eager to get out the motor

the motor is out and on the ground and now i still cant pull out the speedo cable
does anyone have an idea how to remove the speedo cable? i cant see any bolt or nut holding it in place i assumed it was just a pull out plug i dunno its mad damaged now so i dont think i can use it again

another thing i wanted some input on is how to drop the new engine in...ill be getting the engine this week i ordered new energy suspension mounts and i have a few things to swap onto the new motor from the old one like alternater ac compressor etc

im wondering if its easier to drop the motor in complete with tranny intake mani alternater etc or will it be easier to add all the parts once the engines in

i worry that it will be too crowded if i build the engine first them put it in...when pulling the old engine out i had the intake mani taken off first which helped a lot

i dunno how has everone else done it? do u guys complete the motor first then drop it in or vice versa any tips would be appreciated

cool thats what i thought i think it was just a bit of a struggle pulling out because i forgot to unbolt the shifter linkage lol...hope i didnt break the linkage or bend it too hard i unbolted it last minute with the engine a bit in the air lol

i wonder if the new engine comes with the midshaft or else i gotta swap that over too

how bout cleaning/degreasing...im trying to get my tranny clean as possible there is sooooo much gunk on it enuff gunk to scrape off and vaccum

im thinking bout using extra brake cleaner i have to shine it up hope it wont damage it

how bout that speedo cable is it just something u pull out or is there some sort of locking mechanism lol

dont use brake cleaner.....simple green works great! spray it on and hose it off...or take toothbrush with the simple green and get into every crack

definantly complete the engine. and the speedo cable was stuck? lol thats just another thing u gota wait for. did u try flat head screwdriver? it usually solved all my clip or plug problems. try that next time :P and remember for the back mount, like towads the middle of the car or under the intake mani, to put it on BEFORE you do drop in the engine, and let the engine fit in there, otherwise u gota take out the engine cuz its guna be too tight a space for it to fit behind the engine once its in there. good luck with the engine tho, hope it runs like mine did when i got it, started on a dime

ok so i took my tranny of the old engine and bolted it up to the new one...

i installed the clutch and flywheel on the new motor but i didnt use an alignment tool it seemed to onli bolt on if it was aligned right i dunno i just hope its ok the clutch and flywheel looked ok...i also realized the motor i bought has an auto tranny on it previously i was kinda scared thinking i couldnt use it with my standard tranny... i kno im a noob

so few things im stuck with is the friggin speedo cable!!! i cant rip that sucker outta the tranny its stuck in good i even tried pulling crazy by the cable

the other dilemma is the exhaust mani the pipe that came on my b20 doesnt seem to have an o2 sensor or b compatible with my car at all...this means i have to use my shitty old exhaust mani off the old motor and that explains why my exhaust mani is sooo rusted up its more than likely oringal from 1990

the other dilema is the new short intake mani that came with the motor i thik i can use it but the throttle thats on it now i dont think i can use so i gotta swap over my old dirty *** throttle bottle onto the new intake mani...the guys at jdmenineland mentioned i couldnt use the new throttl because it has a map sensor...

i havent tried to put my old mounts on the new motor but for some reason i have a feeling they wont bolt on right and me passenger side tranny mount has the rubber inside it completely seperated from the mount i dont know how that happened

so i wanna leave the ac compressor off the new motor but im starting to think if i do that something wont work right like for sure ill have an engine light or somethin...if i leave the speedo unplugged will that cause an engine light?...i hate engine lights

i dunno still minor things left to do i hope i drop this bad boy in the car tommroro or saturday and i hope there isnt too many more headaches...it hasnt been bad so far but to do things right u need good space and lots of money lol my garage is sooo tite ryte now i have a jacked up DA 2 motors and a shop crane tucked in their not to mention bolts and miscellaneous parts all over the floor

i need a hook up on headers headers that will fit my o2 sensor i am disgusted at my old exhaust mani

speedo cable is easy to remove as long as you remove the metal clip that hides behind the rubber boot. it should slide out once that is removed.

Just clean your throttle body, get a new gasket and assemble it.

Regarding AC removal, you can just leave it off, no engine lights or anything will go on, nothing to worry about.

Though if you leave the speedo cable off, it will throw you a check engine light and may cause limp mode. [Happened to me, would stop at 4k rpm]

so started her up today and shes good well seemes good i got the engine light on after a few seconds but maybe its jsut the speedo cable...i hope its just the cable everything seems fine she even idles real nice didnt test drive it because i have a real screwed up lower ball joint and it need to be replaced bad the nut wont go on the threads are all mangled and its loose so im just gonna pop a new one on tommoro after work after i buy a new one and hopefully she goes fine

didnt test out any gears or nothing so im just hoping everything was set up right like my clutch tranny etc it feels good to have it running started on the first attempt just that engine light

quick question if it is my speedo cable, the reason the light goes on what is limp mode exactly

when scrider says it goes in limp mode and stops at 4k does the car stop and shut down or does the rpm guage stop and go to zero having the car stall at 4k cant be healthy so if thats the case i gotta fix the cable asap

please clarify whats "limp mode" sorry im a noob

That's great that the car starts and everything seems okay. The car will run it just won't go over 4000 rpm but it shouldn't stall.

so the new balljoints on and the teg is back on the road... bad news is its running pretty ----, it goes into everygear and everything works but when i try to maintain a consistant speed it starts to hesitate hard and casue bad stuttering and if i let the rpms drop under 2 say when in higher gears the vibrations and bogging is horrendous

i wanna check my engine light for codes but i think my cars too old to do so... i have an obd2 reader but i dunt see no wheere to plug it into

i have a loose fuel injector plug and when i disconect it the car idle much better and might even run better havent tried

if im in neutral idleing and i try to rev the car up to say 1.5k rpms it will bounce up and down an rpm or two consitantly like vroom vroom vroom vroom real fast but when i pull one injector plug off it revs fine i can hold it at 1.5krpm running smoothly no abruptness

maybe the car is not getting enough air like in the intake mani my old intake mani was very different from the one thats on now there was an extra output on the back off it i had to makeshift some thing to get all the hoses connected i should take a pic maybe someone can spot an error

im thinking off gettin a proper adapter to make the one output on the intake mani into 2 outputs

i dunno cant complain at least she works and isnt overheating...smells smokey tho maybe its my o2 sensor

maybe ill make it to the nex meet and someone can help lol

another thing i forgot to mention is i used the new fuel rail that came with the new intake mani but i had to use my old fuel injectors because the new ones didnt plug into the harness or wires

i cleaned my old injectors and put the new orings and the inserts from the top in my old injectors because it gave it a tighter fit in the new mani/rail

i dunno i have a feeling its something to do with the injectors

and i thought of something else just now i didnt swap over my iacv from my old intake mani onto the new one maybe thats a problem

and by the way i left the speedo cable ripped out and it isnt in limp mode it stretches way over 4k rpms lol
