im thinking of swapping my b20b with another b20b, but engine only no transmission...i wanna know whats fair to pay somebody for labour.

a day bro, its easyyyyyyy man. straight swap with the right tools and hoist, your golden. Mechanics would charge $600+ i think, depends where you go of course. Set up a swap engine day or sumthin, i would be down to help you out

Yup, was part of one a while back. Just need one person who really knows what they're doing to guide everyone else and others just as a hand to drop it in and hook things up. Mechanics will probably be able to do it in about 6 hours, maybe less. 600-1000 is about right from my experience.

so far im thinking i might set up a swap day it would save me alot of money but i gotta find a hoist for a good price and before anything clean out my garage i have boxes and junk everywhere

it would be a great expirience if someones willing to put some time in and guide me and a few others thru it im pretty confident it can happen

i kno i can do it with time myself but with help and someone with knowledge of how dto do a swap it will be done quick

right now my car is at the mechanic shop and they r closed for can day tommorow but when i hear back again from the mechanic im gonna ask him how much to swap the engine and if he does it for less that 500 ill prolly let him do it but if its over 600 than fore sure im gonna tell him to drain all the fluids and tow it to my garage

also the engine im looking at online is from jdmengineland if i buy it i wonder if they deliver for free? lol

by the way thanks guys for offering help if everything goes thru you're invited to come...i remember acurate paul and nizmo from a small meet a while bac thanks for looking out guys

i was waiting for someone to offer a hoist

scrider r u down to bring by the hoist?
i dont mind paying you for it...but then again princess auto aint a bad idea having my own hoist will inspire me to do more swaps after this one lol

as for tools i have a complete socket set and alot of other miscellaneous tools

i think im gonna start cleaning and organizing my garage today...
i wonder if i can make this swap happen this weekend i can prolly have the engine delivered friday i wonder how many ppl would be down on such short notice

my mechanic is closed today and the car locked up there so i gotta talk to him tommorow and see how much hes gonna ask to do it himself...im pretty sure hell charge over 600 which means im bringing the ride home and doing it myself but who knows maybe hes gonna hook it up
tommorow i will post for sure whether im doing it at home or letting the mechanic do it

heres a link for the engine i wanna pick up

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ184407058#

what do you guys think will that engine workout fine? will i need anything else or am i forgetting something? i hope that engine comes with mounts and all that...from the blurry pic doesnt look like it has an alternator im also gonna have to keep my old intake maybe even dizzy i have a 90 ls dizzy and i think the one on that engine is a crv one dont know if it will plug into the harness...i just hope there isnt big mods to fit this engine in i already have a b20b in it so it should be straight forward

once again thanks everyone for the input if i do this swap at home which is likely i look forward to seeing everyone

ya if youre getting it from engineland theres no dizzy or alternator or mounts. thats where i got mine from. i paid 565 in total for it, but it came with the short manifold. for 450 plus tax you can get the motor with the giraffe mani and just swap out the one on your old b20 but youll need a new gasket most likely. if this is you're first swap, from experience, be prepared for seized bolts, your best friend is a prybar, and be prepared to spend some extra cash on new nuts and bolts from honda.

wow this is going to be harder than i thought im not too worried about the alternator or mani cause my alternator is fairly new and the mani i can just take off my old engine...the dizzy isnt a big deal i was just hoping to have an xtra one lying around but i was gonna use my old dizzy anyways cause it practically brand new...no mounts sucks *** and now that u mention seized bolts im kinda nervous...my integra rusty as ---- bolts r seized for sure i hope i can pick the engine up for 400 even without a mani i was hoping they wouldnt charge tax and i wont have to pay much for delivery but i guess your right im prolly looking at over 500 bucks to get what i need/want to my door

i was fully thinking everything thats in the pic is what id get for 400 including the dizzy and mani and i could swear theres one mount visible in the pic so i assumed they were included too...what a challenge!

does anyone know what i should be shopping for 90 integra motor mounts or 98 crv motor mounts???

i know mounts r important and they should always be changed when swapping...i just dont know if all b series mounts r good or i need specific ones? do i buy them for the motor or for the car?

hey we go to the same place for engines, i just recently got a b20b from engineland cuz i needed to swap out my blown b18(bought it that way), its strong as hell and fired first time instantly.
and yeah, the b18 and b20 are practically identical, except if your original is american, the jdm doesnt have the crank sensor or knock sensor as well, also you should switch the thermostat because it comes from japan and its set to run really cool, you'll never get any heat outa your engine. mounts are good, and yea, hope it works out for ya

my rides still 1at the shop and i finally spoke to my mechanic himself not the yunger guys and he seems to have a good idea on what to do...hes been real busy so hasnt looked at my car much but he said the belt has definately slipped off and hes not sure if there was any damage to the motor. he mentioned he would just put a new belt on but he doesnt want to take any chances if the motor is wrecked...so he explained to me that when he gets some time he gonna take the rocker and a bunch of other things off in order to test the compression of each cylinder and if the compression is good he says its safe to just replace the belt. i wont hear ba from the mechanic till monday but i like his idea it would save me a lot of work and i wont have to waste a good motor if it is still good

so my garage is all cleaned up and ready to bring my car home but now my car might be safe after all...mechanic also asked me how i was driving when it broke down fast or slow and i explained that i was driving real slow i just left a stop sign and made it into 2nd gear if im lucky i was doing prolly 10km/h i hope this saved my motor i kno if it broke on the highway its most likely i bent valves n stuff but hopefully since i was driving slow nothing happened

so ya if it just needs the belt replaced im letting the mechanic do it but if it needs a swap shes coming home

ill keep everyone posted on what happens i hope it just needs a belt

Hey, yes I wouldn't mind lending it plus helping you out.
Also all mounts will work off your current motor. If you want to upgrade, buy the mounts for your Integra year.

Would suggest to replace water pump/timing belt since its a lot easier while its out of the car and would know exactly whens it due for replacement.

the b20 mount is slanted stock on the engine is it not? it was on my swap, the b20 just requires the mount on the head of the engine to swapped with the b18 mount. the mount with the 2 long nipple like things on the driver side of the motor.

The B20 and b18 are the same. B20 is just bored/sleeved b18.
Depending what you have and what you are getting you may need an adapter for the driver side mount. 2-3 bolt conversion plate.

ha ha thanks guys

im almost ready to pull this motor out im in need of a crane/hoist now and i gotta pull out the shafts

i was gonna unbolt the tranny and leave it in there but now ppl r telling me pull it all out together then take the tranny off and bolt it to the new motor before putting the new motor in

if i can get a hold of a crane this weekend im pretty sure i can get it done...right now i have enuff money to buy a motor or a hoist but not both

ill have to wait till next weekend to buy both hoist and engine

4got to take pics will get some up today

i dont mind having a swap meet but with all honesty im not tryna turn it into a party i just need a few knowledgeable guys to help out...i know these swaps go smoother with fewer ppl i dont mind setting up a swap day but please i dont want 20 ppl showing up to this thing i think 10 ppl is already too much lol...keep in mind theres no room in my garage really theres just enuff space to walk around the car lol...i think im gonna be doing alotta work on the drive way

SCRIDER if u can bring up your hoist this weekend we just mite be able to give my DA her heart back...thanks everyone

Its not hard to do at all and with all these guys wanting to help it should be a breeze. The best thing I can advise is if you change the timing belt and water pump you might as well get a special bolt holder for the crankshaft pulley, that thing is a bitch if you do not have the tools. Brute strength is not enough.

whoa that sounds lethal...can we use the same method to install it? lol

but if i drop it i think ill risk damaging the intake mani

im gonna see what else i can do today im having some trouble removing the clutch cable from the tranny

i took out some ac hoses yesterday mite find some new ones to replace them my ac mite finally work after...both hoses were punctured and i broke one in half because it was already cracked

im gonna buy a hoist if i have too just keep it for next swaps maybe try a civic with a d series...i was wondering if partsource lent them out i know they lend tools

so they engine is out and it wasnt easy

i forgot to unblot the shifter linkage both pieces and i pulled up on the engine a bit i hope i didnt bend up the linkage bad and i hiope it bolt back in good...i dunno if anyone else experienced this... i also forgot some bolts on the down pipe that held it to the engine i just undid the 3 bolts that connec the exhaust mani and thought it was enough

as for the ball joints wow i used a perfect tool i dunno what its called but its like a crow bar with a horse shoe for a tip worked bome i think its the only way to get it out the shafts came out like a breeze aswell

i hope dropping it in wont be hard but im thinking of replaceing alotta things now i want a new rad, some headers and maybe even a new tranny while im at it

i dunno but im buying a motor this week and psyced to put it in its gonna be a b20 for sure unlese i can get an original b18b for the same price i think id rather do that
