Hi guys,

I was frantically replacing a rear caliper yesterday to pass safety (only thing stopping it) so I could get the DA on the road but I was so tweaked by the time I was done that I bled the calipers without checking the fluid level and... yeah it was out. I pumped a bunch of air into the system. It's an ABS car so I don't know how much of the air is in the pump now. I bled a full reservoir through the calipers and I got one of them to fart air but now they all bleed fluid and the pedal is still completely spongy. It stiffens up a bit with pumping but once the engine is on, the brakes only really work by the floor. I'll drive it down my snowy side rd to activate the ABS, hopefully clear out the air there.

But ideally I need to get a power bleeder to push a proper volume of fluid through and keep it pressurized. Can anyone in the GTA please loan me one for a night or two?

you shoulden't need a power bleeder, are you bleeding with a clear bottle and a hose? if so keep going untill there's no more air bubbles, it may take 3 bottles of brake fluid before all of the air comes out. then the first time you step on the brake it will be spongy but then it will stiffen up.

 

Nah I'm just letting it spit out into a drain pan.

So you think it's possible to get all the air out even though it got sucked in through the MC? I'm just worried that it may be trapped in the ABS. But then again my ABS doesn't work, so maybe not?

I did keep bleeding and some more air did come out, and it's better now. I guess I just gotta keep pumping.

^no problem man, but use a clear bottle and a hose, that way you can pump for days until you see no more bubbles coming out, it helps to get a friend to give you a hand that way you can open/close the valve and he can pump the brake, but all of the air will eventually come out.

 

Yeah, that's how I do it, get my wife to do the pump-n-hold while I open the valves. It has gotten better so I'll just keep bleeding. I guess I've just never introduced air at the MC so I'm not used to having to put SO much fluid through.

 

^exactley, once air is in the system, it takes it's sweet time and alot of fluid to get it out.
