gas milege
just a curious question
how much gas should i be getting on a half tank as a average if i floor my 1994 LS most of the time? |
If your floor it most of the time you might not have to worry about gas mileage but perhaps a new head gasket or something lol but to answer your question I drove to the cottage and bac filling up before I left punching it the whole way up there and i got 600k on 91 shell gas
|
hahahaha. i have a 94 LS as well, i dont floor it ALL the time, but i do love to feel that pull. i get about 200-250 from half a tank, how much do you get anyway?
|
well i filled up a half a tank right now i got about 120 km already and i have just under a lil of a quarter tank left so just trying to see if thats normal but then again i like to punch 85% of the time.. lol
i just got it so might as well enjoy it i got 135k on a 1994 so im trying to put some kilometers up .. :) and about the head gasket i dont worry my brother tracks cars for fun so im sure he will enjoy the work besides with 135k i dont think it should be a problem yet but once it does good time for a swap |
get about 250 to a half tank. 450 to a full tank. think i'm getting shitty mileage due to a worn out bearing though :S
|
so 200-250 is my target point..im not gonna fill up until i hit it .. lol
|
You will always get better fuel mileage from the first half of the tank (full to half tank), because of how the float sits in the tank. But you should still get around 250 for the first half and about 200 from half to empty.
|
thanx for the info spike
|
No problem.
|
As far as I remember with mine, I'd get around 250-275ish. I do 70% highway, but tend to drop a gear quite often haha. Overall I remember getting 560ish with 4L left over haha.
|
600k on HW...480-540 for half n half....ang 460-510 for streets.... depends

I get 230 km with a quArter tank. 250 is most minimum on a half tank. I don't floor ot though. Hardly
|
my car has 260000kms on it... and i get close to 300km on a half tank..
|
okay i got about 180 km on a half a tank but that was me flooring it 95% of the time
i dont know if thats good or not you guys let me know and chris im not burning any oil i know what that looks like because half or my brothers civics were burning oil |
ok. i am not having trouble with my bearing anymore and i just got 100k to a 1/8 tank. (top portion) shell fuel
|
shell fuel is good
but do u guys fill up regular most of the time? |
no point in running high octane. at the end of the day its still a regular civic motor.
i actually get way worse mileage on high octane. |
on average i get 200 km on half with pushing it 50% of the time ya high octane gives me less millage.
|
high octane gives you less millage ? i thought it was better no?
|
Full tank I can get 480-500.
Half tank 200 I think...with the first half I usually get 300 or so. |
burns hotter. if the motor isn't made for it, then whats the point? i dunno why i got less mileage, but for some reason i for sure due when i run anything higher than 89
|
i see
well i put regular in my car anyway .. and loving it :) |
Even though with premium you get lower milage the car feels little more responsive. I don't know whether its just in my head but it pulls a little nicer on the highway.
|
I always put in shell v power. Its cleaner and is probably the best gas (not trying to start a debate). i've heard it from many engine builders and mechanics saying poeple the see that use only shell versus other cars, have "cleaner" engines. Plus my best friends dad is a vp at shell in some division of it, and he is not a bias person, and votes for it too. i dont care bout the extra 2 bucks or less mileage, my car is at almost 280,000 and the orginal owner (car only had one owner when i got it, even have the original acura ownership card thing) and he always used 91 and mostly shell. it doesnt burn one signal bit of oil and its in perfect working order, and passed emissons fine and has never had a new 02 or cat.
|
I got a b20 with a b16 trans when I use pioneer 91 and granny shift i get about 330 on a half tank. 91 of petro i get about 200-250 pushing the light for a while. Full tank about 600 on pioneer 91.
|
oh man that is some funny video
how do u do that ? |
yeah. i run only shell, but usually not v-power. never burned oil and never had any problems. pulled the motor a while ago and everything is immaculate inside still. (though i also run synthetic with brand new filter EVERY 5000klm max)
|
Same, always new filter and always every 5000. I've heard that 5000 is a lil overkill in reality, but i do it. good results lol.
|
Ya i think shell does have the best gas and sunoco's 94 oct...With higher oct you do get that extra pull in your car its not in your head the higher oct makes it spark faster which makes it more responsive.
|
I only use Shell. On the last $20 i put in my car from close to empty, so far I put 285 km's on the $20, and now my fuel light is on again, and that was highway driving mostly, but hard driving at that, lol.
|
hmmmm that made me think. i always seem to get better gas milage on 20 buck than a full tank to empty lol. or so it seems. maybe im crazy.
|
when the gas light is on
how much kms do i have till car stops? |
When the light comes on there is only about 2-3L left in the tank, so not very much driving left.

Acurate Paul, the 94 octane actually burns fuel more slowly and is more resistant to detonation, or to use your lingo "spark slower" :D |
i see thanx for the feedback

Wrong, theres at least 10L left when it comes on, or easily another 100Km
I would love to believe this were true. Thanks, Mixed1 :D |
i cant 100% confirm but i have driven far with the light on. like 30 some kms. i dont want to test it lol.

Can you provide a source verifying the "Truth" to this answer?
I would love to believe this were true. Thanks, Mixed1 :D But one things for sure, it really wouldnt make sense for the light to come on and only leave you with a couple litres of fuel, people would be getting stuck left and right (especially highway travellors) |
I might actually try this lol. Get a small can of gas and drive her till she stops. then slap some fuel in from my jerry can. well let you guys no when i do it. lol this should be fun.
|
ok my light came on in burlington and i made it all the way to north brampton no prob (after making a detour down derry to find gas, but i didn`t have my wallet on me :S)
after filling it up with the needle so far buried that it wasn`t even registering on the gauge anymore (i drove for i ---- you not 65k with the light on) i managed to squeeze only 40.3 litres into her and it was right full. so i`d say i definitely have a forty liter tank |
ya my brother said once the light comes on
i can go to niagra falls and back maybe he overexdurated a bit but i know u can drive it for a while with the gas light on |

Looool. From Toronto to Niagara falls ey?
Anyone wanna test that on the cruise on the 4th? LOOL |
maybe he was over exaturating a bit but im sure you can go a at least there

lol you squeezed 40.3 litres into it, and you only have a 40L tank? Are you sure it was bone dry, did you run out of gas?

i put a short ram intake into my car
and im guessing its gonna kill more of my gas now ? is that true maybe minor changes? |

Maybe you have a different size tank for some reason, I've also never really heard of "over-filling" with fuel splashing out. There are supposed to be safeguards that totally eliminate that. |
k well i already have had my light on for 21 kms. and i have some gas in a jeery can so ill let you guys know how long mine goes... its a 1993 with a b18a so its comparable to the rest of you. although, i know this is not good for your car lol, so this better end it all lol and not have to do it again lol.
|
so far ive drove 41 kms, in street so stops and go's and some traffic. i put 3.8 litres in at 38 kms just to see, and my low fuel light cam on like right 2 kms later. so obviously it has a fair bit in there when the light goes on cus 4 litres made it pretty much stay on.
|
GOOD INFO
keep it coming |
k so i've gone 61 kms. but to be honest, i had to go to an interview today at a shop and i didnt want to be late or run out so i put 20 in... dam. but still 61 and it didnt die is a lot. ill try it now 100% with my tank now. i only got like 3/5ths in there so ill keep you guys posted.

Actually it makes perfect sense, Honda, (and every other car manufacturer out there) is alerting you, that you are running low on fuel and down to your last 1/4 tank - or in this case 1/5 tank. There would be no point turning on the fuel light when the tank is near dry, as in many cases there would be nothing you can do about it.

There are supposed to be safeguards that totally eliminate that. teah thats true. too be honest i'm kinda confused now. cause i just drove over 80k with my fuel light on..... all the way from TO until niagara...... needle was so buried that it wasn't even on the guage anymore... maybe my light is just messed.... i dunno |
yea i got to 76 and it stopped on me, but then start right up again, but i just put gas in cus its soooo bad for your fuel pump to run it dry :D
|
nice info
always good to know |
okay so i filled up again this time to full tank
but the first half (half to full tank) i only got around 175 km's all yall is saying how u get 200-250 for sure i did no highway driving.. and i didnt floor it ALL the time. so im just wondering if im tripping out, or is there something i should be looking into to replace |
highway is where you get the best milage. street driving it all isnt too bad getting 175. but i got 620 once on full tank but that was like all highway and driving with fuel in mind.
have you done emissions? |
yes i did !
and i didnt do any highway driving lately so i guess its all good |
if you have high HC ratings then you would be running rich. but since you pased you should be good.
just dont drive as hard. you use a lot more gas when you drive hard. |
