gas milege

just a curious question
how much gas should i be getting on a half tank as a average if i floor my 1994 LS most of the time?

holung 09-13-2009 10:24 PM

If your floor it most of the time you might not have to worry about gas mileage but perhaps a new head gasket or something lol but to answer your question I drove to the cottage and bac filling up before I left punching it the whole way up there and i got 600k on 91 shell gas

redteggy 09-13-2009 10:24 PM

hahahaha. i have a 94 LS as well, i dont floor it ALL the time, but i do love to feel that pull. i get about 200-250 from half a tank, how much do you get anyway?

dimasbenz 09-13-2009 10:32 PM

well i filled up a half a tank right now i got about 120 km already and i have just under a lil of a quarter tank left so just trying to see if thats normal but then again i like to punch 85% of the time.. lol

i just got it so might as well enjoy it
i got 135k on a 1994 so im trying to put some kilometers up .. :)

and about the head gasket i dont worry my brother tracks cars for fun
so im sure he will enjoy the work

besides with 135k i dont think it should be a problem yet
but once it does
good time for a swap

SOR 09-13-2009 10:55 PM

get about 250 to a half tank. 450 to a full tank. think i'm getting shitty mileage due to a worn out bearing though :S

dimasbenz 09-13-2009 11:22 PM

so 200-250 is my target point..im not gonna fill up until i hit it .. lol

Spike 09-14-2009 12:49 AM

You will always get better fuel mileage from the first half of the tank (full to half tank), because of how the float sits in the tank. But you should still get around 250 for the first half and about 200 from half to empty.

dimasbenz 09-14-2009 12:52 AM

thanx for the info spike

Spike 09-14-2009 12:54 AM

No problem.

D.T.P 09-14-2009 03:55 AM

As far as I remember with mine, I'd get around 250-275ish. I do 70% highway, but tend to drop a gear quite often haha. Overall I remember getting 560ish with 4L left over haha.

aldrine 09-14-2009 12:09 PM

600k on HW...480-540 for half n half....ang 460-510 for streets.... depends

Make sure you do your oil change regularly too, I found I get wayyyyy better mileage. Keep an eye on your exhaust to make sure your cars not burning oil too quickly. (Watch for blue exhause smoke).

chaser 09-14-2009 04:41 PM

I get 230 km with a quArter tank. 250 is most minimum on a half tank. I don't floor ot though. Hardly

purposebuilt 09-14-2009 06:29 PM

my car has 260000kms on it... and i get close to 300km on a half tank..

dimasbenz 09-14-2009 09:03 PM

okay i got about 180 km on a half a tank but that was me flooring it 95% of the time
i dont know if thats good or not you guys let me know

and chris im not burning any oil i know what that looks like because half or my brothers civics were burning oil

SOR 09-15-2009 09:08 AM

ok. i am not having trouble with my bearing anymore and i just got 100k to a 1/8 tank. (top portion) shell fuel

dimasbenz 09-15-2009 09:37 AM

shell fuel is good
but do u guys fill up regular most of the time?

SOR 09-15-2009 10:30 AM

no point in running high octane. at the end of the day its still a regular civic motor.

i actually get way worse mileage on high octane.

AcuratePaul 09-15-2009 03:50 PM

on average i get 200 km on half with pushing it 50% of the time ya high octane gives me less millage.

dimasbenz 09-15-2009 05:36 PM

high octane gives you less millage ? i thought it was better no?

Vida 09-15-2009 09:02 PM

Full tank I can get 480-500.
Half tank 200 I think...with the first half I usually get 300 or so.

SOR 09-16-2009 05:33 PM

burns hotter. if the motor isn't made for it, then whats the point? i dunno why i got less mileage, but for some reason i for sure due when i run anything higher than 89

dimasbenz 09-16-2009 06:19 PM

i see
well i put regular in my car anyway .. and loving it :)

D.T.P 09-16-2009 06:43 PM

Even though with premium you get lower milage the car feels little more responsive. I don't know whether its just in my head but it pulls a little nicer on the highway.

XNXIXTXRXOX 09-16-2009 08:50 PM

I always put in shell v power. Its cleaner and is probably the best gas (not trying to start a debate). i've heard it from many engine builders and mechanics saying poeple the see that use only shell versus other cars, have "cleaner" engines. Plus my best friends dad is a vp at shell in some division of it, and he is not a bias person, and votes for it too. i dont care bout the extra 2 bucks or less mileage, my car is at almost 280,000 and the orginal owner (car only had one owner when i got it, even have the original acura ownership card thing) and he always used 91 and mostly shell. it doesnt burn one signal bit of oil and its in perfect working order, and passed emissons fine and has never had a new 02 or cat.

KleenGiz'R 09-16-2009 08:58 PM

I got a b20 with a b16 trans when I use pioneer 91 and granny shift i get about 330 on a half tank. 91 of petro i get about 200-250 pushing the light for a while. Full tank about 600 on pioneer 91.

dimasbenz 09-16-2009 11:50 PM

oh man that is some funny video
how do u do that ?

SOR 09-17-2009 08:11 AM

yeah. i run only shell, but usually not v-power. never burned oil and never had any problems. pulled the motor a while ago and everything is immaculate inside still. (though i also run synthetic with brand new filter EVERY 5000klm max)

XNXIXTXRXOX 09-17-2009 11:47 AM

Same, always new filter and always every 5000. I've heard that 5000 is a lil overkill in reality, but i do it. good results lol.

AcuratePaul 09-17-2009 09:49 PM

Ya i think shell does have the best gas and sunoco's 94 oct...With higher oct you do get that extra pull in your car its not in your head the higher oct makes it spark faster which makes it more responsive.

Spike 09-17-2009 11:22 PM

I only use Shell. On the last $20 i put in my car from close to empty, so far I put 285 km's on the $20, and now my fuel light is on again, and that was highway driving mostly, but hard driving at that, lol.

XNXIXTXRXOX 09-20-2009 11:55 PM

hmmmm that made me think. i always seem to get better gas milage on 20 buck than a full tank to empty lol. or so it seems. maybe im crazy.

dimasbenz 09-21-2009 12:57 AM

when the gas light is on
how much kms do i have till car stops?

Spike 09-21-2009 05:49 AM

When the light comes on there is only about 2-3L left in the tank, so not very much driving left.

Wrong, theres at least 10L left when it comes on, or easily another 100Km

Acurate Paul, the 94 octane actually burns fuel more slowly and is more resistant to detonation, or to use your lingo "spark slower" :D

dimasbenz 09-21-2009 12:02 PM

i see thanx for the feedback

Can you provide a source verifying the "Truth" to this answer?

I would love to believe this were true.

Thanks,
Mixed1 :D

XNXIXTXRXOX 09-21-2009 01:43 PM

i cant 100% confirm but i have driven far with the light on. like 30 some kms. i dont want to test it lol.

I don't think this information is actually listed anywhere in the manual, so mostly you would have to rely on personal testimonials on this one.

But one things for sure, it really wouldnt make sense for the light to come on and only leave you with a couple litres of fuel, people would be getting stuck left and right (especially highway travellors)

XNXIXTXRXOX 09-21-2009 03:48 PM

I might actually try this lol. Get a small can of gas and drive her till she stops. then slap some fuel in from my jerry can. well let you guys no when i do it. lol this should be fun.
