Exclamation Gas Mileage + Tank Size Question

Ok, so Ive had my DC for 2 or 3 weeks now, and I'm noticing a few differences between my new DC and my old one. The main one is the gas consumption, and the tank size.

So my first question. Is how many liters or whatever does your gas tank roughly take when the gas light comes on?

I recall from my old Teg that It could take 45 to almost 50 liters. My new one doesnt even go to 40 when the gas light is on for a while. Also, where abouts does your gas light come on. For me it has a quarter left according to the gauge and the light comes on......weird. Because when its full its at the right place.

So my main question is....how many liters can your tank hold, and how many KMS do you get from it, and what octane do you use. Just wanna see if out of 40 liters im getting a decent amount of mileage....Im getting like 420 kms...and thats pushing it with the light on.

Thanks

Were you taking a hard right when the light came on or onto an on ramp???

Mine takes about 45L With my old B18b1 I was getting around 450-500 to the tank would of beat some sort of teg record one night when I was at 550 and still had about half a quater left but was in the middle of no where and was scared to keep going.

With my new motor I am EXTREMLY happy with 400KM/L to the tank lol lowest I got was 300KM/L

Nope. Gas light is on during regular driving and its at a quarter way. What gets me mad is my tank size. Seeing that it only takes 37 liters at times gets me mad....and thats with the tank bone dry.

And euphhh. 400 a tank? on 91 octane? *** rapage with filling up loool. But the Vtec makes up for it. loool

As far as I can remember every fill-up was no more than 40L, usually topping off at about 35-37 depending on where I was when I decided to stop for gas. I don't recall ever having more than that go in.

Mileage-wise, if I'm gentle and conservative with my driving, I would expect about 500-550 with my hammerheads on it. About 475 with my winters.

Being not so gentle and letting some ponies loose I see about 400-425km to the tank.

Left hand turns seem to upset my needle and show a lower reading. Straightening out solves that.

Solution? Constant right hand turns = more, free, gas

i've had my light come on and i tested it with a spare jerry can. i drove it for 120klm with the fuel light on and it still didn't die. wound up doing 580klm in total. can't remember how much fuel it was, but just proves how early the light comes on.

Its up to par. Havent checked anything with the fuel filter though. Thats something I should get onto. Hell even the fuel lines could be a disaster.

Everything else is pretty well set.

yeah, basically fuel delivery, ignition system, intake (filter, sensors) exhaust(clogged cat, sensors) are a good rule of thumb

Its funny how much variation we get in estimating tank sizes. If im so far off from 50L at a fillup, that means i still got tons left in the tank.

One day ill fill it up to the brim and carry a jerry can with me.. And run it down till she sputters and throws in the towel. 600 km, anyone? :P

If it's a b18b, you should be running 87 or no higher then 89 octane fuel. Running anything higher can cause worse fuel consumption.

My record last summer with the civic (b16a2 with short-ratio SiR trans) was 705kms to 45 litres (full tank).

^^^ Yeah basically the B18b compression is like 9:2:1 I think, which is really crappy, unless your like tuned for 91+ Theres no point, you won't see any gains just worse mpg. I run 87 in my teg, i love loud and annoying the engine sound is with lower grade gas lol

No but JJ I dunno 300 still seems way to little for a stock b18b1 and it's auto seems really strange to me man.

Auto, being driven hard. Big heavy wheels, driven hard and relatively hard to turn. = poor economy

But only 300km?!?! Hard to believe when I had my b18b1 I was an aggressive driver with 17" and always got 420+ to a tank.

Winnar

Yes there is no need to guess, the tank is 50L
The light tends to come on when there is about 10L left in the tank, if not you have some sort of mechanical problem.

To the op, just do a forum search, these questions have already been answered.

Why is 9.2:1 crappy? Its designed to run just fine on regular unleaded with decent performance to get you from a to b.

A Ferrari F40 is only 7.8:1 what does that make it? lol

As far as loud engine sound when using 87, I can't even big to guess...well actually it shouldnt sound any different unless you are detonating.

Actually its twin-turbo

And you missed my point, I was trying to say that the engineers choose the appropriate compression ratio based on the application and desired result.

^ "turbocharged" can refer to one or multiple turbos.

I only mentioned it because some people don't know it has forced induction. Wasn't trying to be an *** or anything. lol

i'm too lazy to read up on all the posts, but i did read the first post. David, go pick up a costco membership card, and start filling up at costco gas stations. I put 91 from them and i swear, it's better than shell 91. I used to get about ~400 with shell 91 (yes, with occasional vtec, lol). Now, i get ~500kms with costco 91, and costco 91 is 108 compared to shell 91 which is 120. I don't know where they get their gas from, but i've been really happy with it. They have a few locations across the city that have a pump. I use the one in scarborough, at warden and ellesmere. There is one in sauga / etobicoke at royal york / queensway ( i think thats the address. Its the costco in between islington and royal york above the qew.)
