Hi Guys,

I have a 94 teg, it use to be where if I am making a hard right turn the front driver side wheel makes a wierd metal touching noise ( kinda hard to describe) as the wheel turns. Now its making it with every right turn. Any Ideas?

 

Likely your wheel bearing.

Soon, it will make that noise all the time. Then, your car will blow up.

 

I had a machanic look at it and they said that it wasnt the bearing. They had held the Tire and shook it and it seemed fine.

oh, is this something that can cause the wheel to break off or something serious if it goes?

 

Thanks guys, I've replaced the Wheel Bearing and the noise is gone. I paid $150 in total for it and it was a after market part. Is this price reasonable?
should I have gotten OEM?

 

ok I;ve replaced my wheel bearings and the noise went away.. but after about a few weeks the noise started to come back and its getting louder and louder. any ideas ? I've already replaced the drive shaft, the wheel bearing. What else can it be?

 

i had this problem if its the same noise which it sounds like it is from ur description...for me it was the metal guard around the rotors..they bend easily and it would touch either the rotor or something else...i just bent mine out of the way and the sound went away..try it out it may be the problem

 

damn thats a good price was the 150 wheel bearing plus labour? cuz i got mine done today for 200.. he repleaced the whole wheel baering hub... but yeah i had that noice to.. i just replaced it today but if it comes back i let you know wut else it could b...

 

alright, please keep me posted on what you did to fix the problem, so far I've replaces the drive shaft, the wheel bearing and the problem is still there. The only think I can think of is the ball joint... I will give that metal guard a try but I highly doubt its that because when I replaced the wheel bearing the noise went away for a while.

lol easier said then done. This machanic is my dad's friend and I've been with him for some time now so.. but if I change the ball joint and it still isnt fixed, then I am moving on.

 

When I had noises coming out of the front end everytime i drove. i replaced my entire front spindels. added new lower ball joints - the noise was a goner after that. My comment might be far out , hopefully it give's you some relevance to the noise. If not good luck

All right turns, there seem to be sound of metal grinding noises.

the only thing left that I can think of is the ball joint. I've already replaced the wheel bearing and it wasnt that.

 

i read somewhere that if your wheels are not aligned properly and it's way out of spec, that can cause pre-mature wear on the wheel bearings

 

within 2 weeks though? i cant see a brand wheel bearing being worn down to nothing within 2 weeks.

 

dude i got the same damn problem.. right turns same thing.. i wanna fix it too.. mine also makes a teeth biting squeek when the car is warm and i reverse and brake.. not when i go forward and brake though.. As the guy said before.some metal guard around the rotors was the advice given to me by someone else but i havnt tried fixin that yet

 

trust me its embarassing reversing when ppl are around

 

if it only happens when u turn it might be the brake thing.. at the shop where i work at.. we had a corolla with that same problem... we just cut out a little bit of the centre piece of the clip above the pads.. and the noise was gone.. what happens is taht the clip bends some times and starts rubbing on the rotor.... so try that.. its reall easy.. jsut grind off a piece inthe middle and see.. quikk fix.. if not... if ur car has rear drums.. just get em cleaned up.. no need to replace em... but just clean em up... and see how that works.. and remember to spray with brake cleaner... cuz some times the inside just rubs on the drum.. try that.. and let me know how it goes... :thumbsup:

 

Could be your strut mounts or blown stuts.

 

arent blown strust because they are new, strut mounts can be a possibility.

 

I brought my car to a mechanic today and they did what you said below.
They told me its the wheel bearings but the problem is that they quoted me $600 if you said the sound came back 2 wks later. Is there another mechanic that will do for a better price. I think $600 is a little too steep.

Anyone have any recommendations?

 

My Machanic did the Wheel Bearing for me for $160 labour included but he didnt use OEM parts, but my car is 14 years old so I didnt really care.

 

on my 2000 SiR did the same noise after a mechanic did my brakes took it back to him and it was the rotor gaurd rubbing...

 

While I was doing my own oil change this past weekend, i have verified that its the rotor guard rubbing, simply by pushing it outwards the noise is now GONE! so for anyone who has this problem first try this solution before spending $$$.
