Default failed etest hlp

I did an etest over the weekend and my car failed horribly, only on idle. the HC limit is 200 car was at 444 and the CO limit is 1 and car is at 1.09 . what could be the cause of this ? the cat ?

Clean out your IACV, retard the timing as far as it will go (turn the dizzy back) and manually bump the idle up to 1000rpm and I bet it will pass. (can put everything back to normal after the test. It won't hurt the motor, it'll just be really gutless...lol)

Exact same thing happened with my car and that is what made it pass.

Good luck.

And oh yeah, is the CEL on?

411k, burns no oil. could it be the cat? thought the cat only affected the nox reading . cuz last summer it blew out through the tail pipe saw a bunch of metal flakes behind my car all over the ground. or would it be something else . the check engine light isn't on

Cat affects everything.

Do what mike said to do, if you fail, change the cat

i do etests and most likely a new cat will help the HC's as for the CO you'd have to get a diagnostic tester to see the reading of the o2 sensor to be sure if its an o2 sensor

Ok, wow... to the OP: You failed HC at idle and CO by only .09... Retarding the timing will significantly reduce the HC and will also reduce the CO.

All you need to do is retard the timing and bump the idle up to 1000 and it should pass.

I went though this exact thing with mine and it failed worse then yours.

It is possible for the O2 sensor to be "slow" but not off enough to cause the CEL to come on.

But you shouldn't have to change anything. Just try what I said.

Is your car lowered if not you still have to worry about nox if it is lowered retard the time and take it to an above ground dyno facility because they'll do a two speed idle test (TSI) as the car cant get on the dyno without being damaged and you can't measure nox in a TSI. If you take it to an inground dyno you gotta atleast change the cat and always make sure you get the cat hot. How soon do you need the etest to pass?

Guy doesn't have to replace any parts or spend any more money except on another etest. Just turn the dizzy back and bump the idle up.

Still he's gotta make sure that cat is hot cause if it isn't the hcs will be through the roof. I'll hook you up with a two speed idle if it's lowered

Towards the intake ADVANCES the timing. Towards the exhaust RETARDS the timing.
