I know but I hope its only cold for a few more weeks so I don't have to stress over it. At least until its warm.
SOoooo the good stuff I picked up a b20 block, and GSR waterpump, and tensioner, arp rod bolts tonight.
I'm too lazy to get pics tonight but when I clean up the block tomorrow I'll get some for you guys.

Heres a picture of the block after picking it up. Its not in as good condition as I thought it was going to be in.
So I'm thinking about getting it checked, cleaned & have the cylinders honed.
I spoke with Grahm at canadian Cylinder head, if I supply the parts I'm looking at about 1100, assembled and ready to drop in.
So do I put back OEM parts, or go with some oversized pistons, I guess its really going to depend on how the honing goes and if it needs to be bored at all, kind of bum'd about this unless someone has a better idea of how to get the rust out of the cylinders?????? which is the whole reason for taking the block to an engine shop.
Oh yea and the deck looks straight, and block looks to be in great condition otherwise.

just gotta put it out there...did you purchase this after seeing it in this shape? Because you should have not bought it looking like this and look for another seller.
It honestly looks like this was kept in someones backyard...just gotta think if it will be worth spending money to kinda rebuild it instead of getting a block that was taken care of.
I mean no offense to any of this.

I really have no excuse, I just wanted to get the block, guy assured me that it was in great condition(had been talking to him for 2weeks about picking it up), it wasn't until I got it into better light did I really notice how bad it was. I was being impatient and decided to pick it up at 9pm. He did tell me that he had kept it in a shed.
I was so pumped about picking it up, that I didn't spend as much time looking at it as I should have. Was busy talking about his b20vtec that he was running.

ahhh that's alright dude I jumped into deals that I regretted like my motor...long story lol
What I would do is take it to Graham at that shop and see what he says about it, if it's worth doing the work or getting another fresh one.

Haven't decided might stick with my ls, untill I can find either a decent LSD diff to throw in there, or a complete LSD tranny.
I won't go with a b16 tranny in there as I do do a lot of hwy driving, but I might consider doing what dave did his, if I can find b16 tranny for cheap.
LSD will be the end goal, but night not do it the same time as I drop the motor. As this build is starting to addup..

Re: Build Time
So its been a little while since I've posted some updates. Figure its a good time to do just that.
Started by picking up some very good speakers, and a decent deck, installed the JDM gauge cluster, as well as some SK2 rear LCA & coilovers, Vented valve cover that needs some TLC and a few other little goodies.....
But I'm soo happy to have this home, Builder did an amazing job.
.20 over, coated OEM pistons, shotpened rods, New OEM bearings, ARP rodbots
Block was decked .8thousands of an inch.
Honed & Bored, crank was balanced, micro polished, and knife edged.
Rest will depend on the HG I pick up, but with the specs he gave me, if I get a cometic HG at 84.5mm .40 thickness will give me a compression of 11:5:1
All I have left to pick up is a vtec conversion kit, cometic HG, Breather kit, Crank pulley, and timing covers, and this motor will get dropped in, hopefully by the end of the month.
B16 will be available for those looking for one.
Thanks for the support guys, couldn't have done it with out a lot of your guys input, advise and sometime just an ear to listen to me bitch.
Special shout out to Rye, David, Paul, & Mike
look out for my swap meet....

Re: Build Time
UPDATES!!!!!!!
i've been waiting for parts in the mail for what seems like months.
Have been checking my mailbox daily.
Well yesterday I got a happy surprise when I got in from work, I finally got my headgasket that I have been waiting for for the last 2months.
Its the only real part that has been stopping me from doing this motor swap.
Some other things that came in the mail this month
magnetic drain plugs, Metal Blox Cam seal, new shift ****, vented oil catch can
I also put down a deposit on a GSR Skunk2 Intake manifold, and will be able to pick it up next week sat.
Still looking for
+68mm Throttle body
walbro fuel pump
440cc injectors
I know I can get this car up and running without these things, but if you know somebody selling this stuff, pm, or direct them to this thread.
thanks guys
And a Swap day will be posted soon in a new thread for a day between oct.8th and oct 16th. as I just got my vacation time approved.

Re: Build Time
Quick mini update
sat - got the car towed to the shop, motor was pulled in about 4hrs
sun - tranny & clutch removed from the block, new block is assembled and waiting for the head to be put on. Since I didn't get the ls/vtec conversion kit. Dowels had to be moved and holes where they will be going had to be enlarged. Also plugged the vtec oil passage on the head.
mon - will get the head and block completely assembled, and wired up, sitting in the car hopefully.

Re: Build Time
Another update
one of the studholes in the block was stripped, only found this out after assembling the whole block(very, very long angry story to go with it), tranny and accesories. So basically everything I did on monday was a wash. Had to disassemble the 90% completed motor. FML!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I stumbled into a machine shop around 1pm, after going back and forth with the original machine shop on the phone. I said ---- it and went for a walk to see if I could find a closer machine shop. To my surprise I found a place called GB performance machine shop...... what are the odds that I find this shop 3 buildings down from where I am doing my motor swap, Gord Bush you are the man!

Re: Build Time
No worries man, I'm going to use the stock one, untill I can pick up a skunk2 68mm or 70mm one
Yea I might need to adjust the valve lash again, or it could just be my crappy phone that makes it sound like that.

Re: Build Time
Small update
No pics for now, got the motor running strong now.
- Set the timing on the cam gears.
- Installed my momo wheel, and quick release.
- I re-appolstered the headliner, and painted the passenger side "oh ---- bar", seat belt covers, map & dome lights, sunroof, visors, a,b,c, & d pilars are all black now. Done with some vinal black spray paint. Looks great and well worth the money and effort. So my black and grey interior is now all black. But......
I had a problem with my horn and rad fan.
I believe the issue is the wiring between the horn relay and the horn, so I decided to pull the wiring harness and do a mild wiring tuck. The battery will stay as well as the fuse box in the engine bay, and the connectors for the engine, but the rest will be hidden.
Can't go all out untill I find a non abs teg to grab some parts to replace all the abs stuff in my car.
Also going to try and set it out to get the rust fixed, and my new 98 bumper painted. So with the next update there should be some Really good pictures.

Re: Build Time
Yea paul your welcome to come by anytime, just msg me, but I guess you should wait till I have my dash and center console back in, as my interior is a bit of a mess with the whole process of doing a wiretuck.
