B20 is the easiest swap - all LS bolt-ons bolt right on. More torque than a type r, more hp than an LS. The problem with going to a Vtec motor is you'll probably want to go to a manual tranny and all the hassles associated with that. Vtec motors make their power high in the RPM range and your tranny will most likely just short shift it. So, you're going to be disappointed in performance. So the easiest things to do is to do the B20 or dump the car all together and buy a manual version of the same car wiht the engine you want.

You could also supercharge the ls motor and upgrade to a level ten torque convetor.

or you can just keep your stock auto ls, till your ready for a manual car...would save you the money and headache of doing a swap and such, just cause you want something a little better!!! cause no matter what engine it is, if its auto, its gonna be that slow..unless you slap a hemi in there!!!!

yes the b20b came from the 96-98 crv's i believe and the 99-01 crv are the b20z and the b20z i think has a bit more torque and a bit more hp's too....ok ciao

I believe Lucky Star sells B20 long blocks for 1,100 last time I checked - a long block is everything from the TB to the flywheel. Give them a call and see what they say. The B20Z has higher compression than the B20B hence the higher performance numbers. Do some research cuz I think there's a version of the B20B in Japan that had the higher compression as well. It's one of the torquiest B motors you can buy. Go with the B if you're going to boost it, go for the Z if you're going NA. The nice thing about the B20 is basically it's a B18B with larger pistons. So you can run B18B cams and all the same bolt-ons, just get more torque out of it your mods. They take boost pretty well and JR now has a supercharger kit for them. All B-series turbo kits bolt onto them as well. You can also make good power by adding oil squirters and bolt-on a Vtec head and do a CRVtec. On a manual it's not uncommon for those to put down 200whp and torque numbers close to 150. There are downsides to B20 Vtec so do some research if you go that way. You may just want to put a turbo kit on your current motor and if it blows upgrade to a B20 later. Personally, I'm not a big fan of boost because to the weight it adds to the front of the motor and how the heat limits my ability to run longer sessions at the track. Plus, more maintenance as well. Budget 2gs for the long block, the swap and ECU tuning to make sure it works properly. I suggest an OBD1 harness and a custom chipped ECU.

No worries. I'm a member of the HADA motorsport club and there's always a member somewhere swapping a motor on their driveway and I'm always dropping by to help.

Here's a list of local importers I pulled from the HADA site, you can try some of these:

http://www.enginelandinc.com/enproducts.asp
http://www.eaglejapanmotors.com/
http://www.tokyoautoparts.com/
http://www.jdmplace.com/
http://www.luckystarjapanese.com/
http://www.--------.com/home.php
http://www.unitedmotionsupply.com/ (import whole vehicles)
http://www.tigerjapanese.com/
http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/

I've bought from Eagle, Lucky Star and -------- and all seem to be very straight up guys. Rasmik @ BiP was my favourite importer ever but he's out of the business now .

If you have more specific questions you can try posting them on the HADA site too hadamotorsport.com in the 'Ask HADA' section or on honda-tech (do a search first - they get a bit cranky if people keep asking the same questions).

My name is Miles. Just be patient and one will turn up. See what shipments they have coming in and if a B20Z is on one of them. Or try to find out which B20B has the Z internals in Japan - or if that's just a rumour I heard. A guy I know found out about it somehow.

You can also try car-parts.com for local wreckers that might have one. The plus side of that is if the engine is still in the CRV, you can actually look at the odometer to verify the mileage.

i found this on http://www.geocities.com/chipman_13/hon-car-eng.html

B20B- 2.0L DOHC non-VTEC- 96-98 CR-V (126hp)
B20Z- 2.0L DOHC non-VTEC- 99-01 CR-V (143hp)

if those numbers are correct that would mean that it has only relativly the same amount of hp than the stock ls motor

i am also looking to do a swap and i also have an auto ls 4 door, when there are 3 ppl in the car, the car struggles a lot, so i'm looking to do a swap to help the car along a bit, could some one clarify the B20z engine specs for me?

thx

i found this searching:
http://www.motorpride.com/Articles/V...?SiteID=1&ID=8

it says the b20z has 146 hp and 133 ft/lbs of torque...

i think the main reason to go the b20z is because of the torque... the hp is relatively similar but it gives you that low end power which is where you mostly are at in an automatic...

Get the manual conversion, its a huge difference, it isnt tat much different, the place i went to charged me 500, if i were u, i would rather convert the current b18b auto to manual, it be quicker than swappin in an auto B20.....But if u appreciate not havin to be tired in traffic, then swap it in....I was wonderin, has any1 on here done the b20 vtec conversion b4? if so how much did they end up payin for it?

wait, i may have forgot to include somethin, I paid 500 for the conversion w/out parts, so in the end u may have paid 1000-1200 max, cause I got everything done at once....I had an auto D16y8 taken out at KSRD in Scarborough, I am not sure if they are still existing, but they installed a b16a2 complete w/auto to manual and the swap itself for 3800. You should check the yellowpages and call them to see if they are still around....if u need anymore info add me to msn/e-mail me at kenneth_Tang98@hotmail.com

the only difference from my auto to manual and yours, is the fact that i changed everything at once. Therefore its cheaper due to it being a package....does ur car have mad high clicks? if it does, maybe u could look into doing everything, if not msg me on msn later cause i have a friend who said he mite be able to get u a good deal if u bring the tranny and shift linkage....a b18b tranny shouldnt be much, but a GSR 1 would be more, it depends again on wat route u wanna go

Automatic GSR from JDM land!!!

i was offered an automatic GSR for like 2k when i had my civic...

i think the only difference is that the intake cam was less agressive that's about it if i remember correctly.

i would just buy another b18b/a motor.....the cheapest way to go.....u could get one for about $600 @ japan direct in sauga......the b20 is good but they have very weak cylinder walls......will not hold boost passed 7psi unless sleeved....but anyway....save yourself money and get a new block or if u know a machine shop...id get it re-built.....ls blocks are very strong blocks and can take boost very well.....i've seen ls blocks with stock internals hold 15 psi pushing over 300 whp......juss my $.02.......

^^yea but for how long were they pushing 15psi on stock internals?? i would think anything more then 10 psi on stock internals wouldn't last very long!!

You should just sell your car and buy an standard if that's the case. A lot less headaches. Whatever mods you have just carry them over to the next car.

BTW, AJ Auto parts near Kipling and Queensway has a B20Z for $700.

I won't hold your breath. Not sure what a non-ITR tanny sells for, I imagine 500 bucks? Though the ITR tranny with that motor is a super competitive combo.

auto yes. i drive auto too. at first i was like damn i wish i got stick but i dont mind it now especially in city packed with cars. a vortech supercharging system is waay to expenisve esepcially with the aftercooler. search it up on the site. turbo would be cheaper. i'd go with the engine swap instead. would be the same. besides you cant boost much on stock parts so u'd have to do a build up. my suggestion for motor. auto H22. its vtec and comes in auto on even on ludes. cheap engine, more power and alot more torque than a b18c5, cheaper than turboing. yea its heavier but the power and alot more torque would more than make up for that.
