Default b17

hey guys one of ma buddy is looking forward to doing a swap into his 94' dc. I found a full b17 gsr swap from 93' teg including tranny for a grand. I just wanted to know is it worth doing the swap or is it better to get another engine such as a b18 or b20.

is it because a grand is to much for a b17 or b18 and b20 are better?

why would you decline a b17? it puts out more power than a b18 or b20. only downside is you cannot use the transmission since its cable and not hydraulic. if you sell the transmission and find yourself a b16 trans, you will be set. plus how often do you hear, i have 1.7L :P
but thats just me.

Would the H22 fit?

wow 1000 for b17 if it has decent milage and runs ok thats a steal.. those motors are extremely rare, not many b17s kicking around. i have 1 in my car and i payed 2500 for it 4 years ago with low milage with a mint tranny.

Technically..... the b17 tranny can work. Since 2nd Gen GSR's only appeared in 92-93. The tranny casings are the same as the 94+. The only thing that is different from them are how the are actuated.

I remember reading a lot of threads on G2IC saying that you can transfer all the internals of a 92-93 trannies into 94+. I was contemplating doing that when I was getting a Type R swap into my 2nd Gen GSR.

the tranny is ideal for someone looking for a swap in a g2. cable clutch, 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th are the same as USDM ITR with 4.4 FD.

the motor is better than a b16 but not by much. same hp with a tad more tq. parts can be used for ls/vtec or keep it all together for the sake of having honda's "black sheep" engine.

doesnt the b17 have 160hp. It does put out more then a b18 or b20. But for 1000$, and it came out of a DA, I wouldnt get it. You can pickup a b18b1 for around 400$.

comparing prices from a local importer, also a vendor on this forum:
a b20 goes for $700 $ and an obd 1 b16 goes for $1000.

YS1 tranny's go for about $300-400 when you can find them.

do the math and figure it out if it's worth it for you.

the first gen B18's came with 140 hp, and the second gen came with 142 hp, and the first gen B20's are 126 hp, and the second gen are 146 hp.
