98 gsr, my abs light just went on today and when I turn the car off and on, the light goes away. When I drive for a bit, the light comes back on. One time I actually felt the abs kick in.
Anyway, I was wondering if there are any DIY in regard to cleaning the abs sensors. Also can worn out pads cause the abs light to go on?

For the sake of having the annoying light turn off, can I pull the abs fuse out to safely deactivate abs? It really isn't much help during the summer.

 

yes u can pull out the fuse to disable it

 

You most likely just have a bad abs sensor, go to a shop and get them to scan it out for you and it will tell you what is wrong with the abs system.

 

I just changed my rotors/pads and abs light is still on. I also cleaned the sensors. I tried to disable the ABS but no luck.
It had it's own fuse box with a couple fuses. ABS Relay/ABS B1/ABS B2/ABS Motor and I tried to pull each one and ABS light still stays on so I'm all confused.
Im gonna have to get it scanned I guess.

holy f. Id rather drive without abs but i gotta shut that light off somehow. BTW I just replace my front rotors/pads less than 24 hours ago. I've been driving and I notice the front wheels get very hot after a drive while the rears stay cool.
I don't smell burning or any smoke but i feel the heat towards the center of the wheel and gets cooler towards the outside. Is this normal or should I be worried?
We checked the sliding pin and it was well lubricated so I dont think its seized calipers.
We didn't bother bleeding the brakes though, is that a problem?

 

should have bled them, but i doubt that that is causing it. check to see if the rotors are spec thickness, if they are fine then it could be that the pads are shimmed out too much.

 

Just changing the pads and rotor, and cleaning the sensor will not clear the code, you need to hook up a code reader to clear the code, which every mechanic shop should have. that will tell you what your problem is.
