I have my 90 Integra that i want to get painted,( It has 3 differnt colours on it right now) I have done all the body work and primed the spots I did the work on. Im planning on priming it then taking it to a shop to be painted and clear coated. I wanted to know if i have to prime the whole car(it all ready has it's previous paint on it) and if i make some minor mistakes while priming it, if it will just be taken out when i sand it for for the finish paint. Also how much cheaper do you think it would be if i did this and if it's worth the work

 

If you take it to a good body shop, they will most likely go over the whole car again, that way they know the prep work is done right.

 

Most shops will never just paint over what you bring in. Their reputation is on the line.

They usually just look at what you brought in and quote from there.

Suggest for cheppie paint: Maaco.

Otherwise bring car to a couple of local private shops for estimates.

 

always, unless you want cheapand dont care about your body work, but prep is always gone over.

as for priming the whole car, no you dont need to do this.
only places that actually need primer are areas that have body work done or bare metal showing really.
kind of a waste of time IMO.

Ive decided that im going to do the paint myself to keep costs low. IM decideding between either a base coat/clear coat or a single stage. ive herad that bc/cc is easier to do and cheaper then the ss. Is that ture?

 

hell no.
you better pay close attention to mixing and drying times, aswell as have some kind of experience in somewhat of that field.

if you wanted to you could go buy a gallon of enamel and spray the entire car white or something for like $40, but you need a compressor, gun etc....

if you did the body, with some paint i have left over and materials i have kinda stocked up i can hook you up with an ok job for cheap if you wanted. also depending on your location and will to drive it out and drop it off. lol

Only if you are renting a paint booth and have all the necessary equipment there for you as well.

PLEASE don't tell me you are trying this in your garage at home!

If you are spending the money and want a decent base/clear finish PLEASE send your car to a body shop.

Otherwise go with urethane paint. Nice finish/ hides minor sanding errors and sanding with 320 is enough. Just lay 3 coats about 15 minutes apart. Dry time is 4-6 hours depending on heat.

My question is who is selling you paint over the counter? Most paint suppliers if not all are not supposed to sell retail.
