i recently bought a new lightweight flywheel and im wondering if it needs to be machined.

now as i understand it, it shouldnt need machining since its supposed to be flat already brand new. but ive also heard more than once that flywheels should be machined prior to installation, whether new or used..

so whats the verdict?

 

Soccer, if its new why would it need machining? You answered your own question in the post. Where did you hear that from anyway, sounds dumb.

If you buy a new clutch from a reputable company no you wouldn't need to resurface it. If on the other hand you grab one from a cousin's, friend's sister in law then you gotta inspect it.

If your unsure just bring it to a machine shop and they can tell you right there.

 

its fidanza and on their site they won't garentee that they are balanced but say that they are close due to their manufacturing tolerances.

true gotta take it to a machine shop tomow.

 

Soccer, balancing is different from resurfacing. A brand new flywheel wont need to be resurfaced. However if they can't balance a flywheel accurate, why buy from that company? I've heard great stuff about fidanza flywheel on Honda-tech.

 

guess what information, it needed resurfacing and balancing,the guy told me almost 60% of new flywheels need to be resurfaced.

Anyways installed it today and i love it, the difference in accleration is amazing. it takes a bit getting used to but it feels good.

 

wow this is the first time i've heard that a new flywheel needed to be re-surfaced and balanced.......especially a new fidanza flywheel....

on a side note i have been running a defcon-racing 8lbs aluminum flywheel for almost 5 years now and have no issues with it...

 

me neither, i've had a lightened flywheel for about 3 years now, never had a problem. but soccer is a 2nd year apprentace so he must know what he's talking about

 

i have a 8lbs act flywheel and its been off 3 times now and still hasn't been resurfaced and never had a problem.

 

^and you've been running that flywheel with a unsprung clutch
