Are Vtec and Non-Vtec oil pans different? I'm taking B-Series of course.

they both use the same oil pan, Miles.

 

Are you sure? I just called a dealer and the part numbers are different and the replacement cost is different. Not sure why. Neither is baffled.

I want to put a mugen oil pan onto a B20 bottom end. The only part number mugen has is for the VTEC motor. Just want to know if it's the same.

 

i thought you meant B18b to B18C, those are the same.

they are slightly diffrent........

the B18C pan is "slightly" deeper to cleare the crank girdle/windage tray.

 

Are the oil pickups the same? Just picked up the Mugen oil pan. It's going in tomorrow. Wondering if I need a VTEC oil pickup.

 

the oil pick-ups are very diffrent between the two. make sure you use the correct one for the engine.

if you have a B18B non-VTEC use the non-VTEC pickup
if you have a B18C use the VTEC oil pick up.

 

It's a B20B which is the same as the B18B only with more displacement. Cool. So it should just bolt in and all will be good.

Yeah, it's baffled so you don't get oil starvation from wide sweepers. B-series motors have a huge reputation for spinning bearings after long sweepers. The weird thing is the D-motor comes with a baffled pan. The Bs though, wide open. Stupid design actually. I think you're crazy to go onto a track without a baffled oil pan. Hell, I think most spun bearings could be prevented with a Mugen pan. It's super well designed.
