I want to know your tricks on how to keep your engine bay looking as prestine as the day it rolled off the showroom floor.

Looking very good man. I look forward to seeing it in action one day.

:P

Start up sequence for a new engine:

Crank the engine over for 30 seconds without spark plugs in and with fuel injectors unplugged. This builds up oil pressure.

Then install the injectors and plugs and light the match.

Right now she is filled with Castrol GTX 10W30. She will run for 30mins with that oil and then get some fresh stuff which will last for the first 500km or so. Then I think I'll switch over to Mobil1 and never look back.

My original engine ran Mobil1 for its entire life and looked brand new when it was disassembled.

I don't buy the single weight oil for break in arguments for modern engines.

I'm only running dyno oil to start with to give the rings a better chance of breaking in properly.

Ask 100 people what the proper procedure is and you’ll get 100 different answers… Just remember that new engines from Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes, etc all get Mobil1 from the first turn of the crank…

nautica_t YO 01-09-2007 07:56 PM

yeah based on your engine pictures, one can argue you're a hard parker, but far from that for sure.

very nice pictures as usual and lets see some expo 7 videos of the beast.

canttx 01-09-2007 09:19 PM

Nice congrats on finishing the build. hopefully everything goes smoothly after start up.

Have to ask, do you rust proof the engine bay at all? or the car for that matter? It looks spotless.
