MX6 Build (56k Warning)
My first car ever.. and I am certainly attached too it. I have decided to also make it my Street/Track project. I bought the car at the beginning of summer in 2008 and since then most of the parts have been just to keep it running well. It won't be until next spring will I really start the build.
So to start off this thread.. Here are some pictures and info at the beginning.
It came with the standard USDM 2.5L DOHC V6 w/ a 5 speed Manual. Rated at 164hp, 160lbs-ft stock. I bought the LS model which comes with fog lights, power sunroof, power seats, power mirror's, 4 wheel disc, power steering, A/C and a full leather interior. It was off the road for a month when I first got it to replace the timing belt, water pump, all gaskets and seals, pulleys, radiator including the upper & lower hoses.. as well as the rear end links... Oh and BF Goodrich T/A Tires.
It came with a little bit of rust.. which has now exploded.
After driving it for the summer, I needed to replace a few more parts on the car so I decided to go aftermarket.
- Magnaflow Muffler
- XtremeStop Cross Drilled & Slotted Rotors
- Raybestos Brake Pads
- BWD Distributor Cap & Rotor
- NGK Blue Wires
- Ractive TRQ Black Chrome Exhaust Tip
Engine bay -->
I also went ahead and removed the v6 badge and painted the emblems black and began with the black interior conversion by painting my center console, dash, replacing the rear deck/panel..whatever with a black one.
After driving it throughout the winter, in the spring 2009 I painted the stock 5 spoke rims, Gloss Black and eventually painted the lug nuts a deep red.
--
This year I did a bunch of random fun cosmetic stuff.
- Stock tail lights -> Complimented the M-Edition LS with All Red.
- Tinted Tails
- Dual Angel eye head lights
- Painted exhaust tip black
- Side Mirrors painted black
- Sunroof painted flat black
- Rear leather seats & panels (Black)
- Black vinyl eye lids
Other stuff..
- Probe GT 16" Rims (Painted Black)
- Falken ZIEX 912 Tires
- Front lower control arms (including bushings, ball joints, sway bar links)
- OE spec Universal Catalytic
- K&N Cone filter (Recently replaced with a Ractive Superflow Filter)
- Outer CV Boots
----
Umm.. That's about as far as I have gone.. Oh the new headlights..

Looks pretty good! What kind of track type moda do you have planned?
I was considering one of those back when i was looking for a car, but decided against because of expensive parts. Are you finding prices on stuff to be an issue? Relative to other cars, of course?

I found it difficult at first to find parts but it seems to be getting easier. The KLDE is certainly much harder to find parts for, but not so much the KLZE. Their is a guy who has a really nice MX6 and he does custom parts for it now that others cannot supply or the quality sucks.. Umm.. Probe Addiction offers some decent engine mods.. It's certainly not as simple as say like Honda's but the market really isn't too bad.. I believe their is enough suppliers to build a decent light-mild track car or daily without having to go completely custom everything.

Great build saw it on the other site you had posted in your intro....never seen anyone really build an mx6 or for that fact never even heard of people doing up these cars. I would like to see it on the track and even of the track. Great job so far

From what I have seen on forums, it can be pretty quick on the 1/4 mile and apparently makes a great touring car with proper tuning and the Jspec KLZE engine... but the bottom end is weak and drops valves.
I honestly can't tell you why people don't mod this car.. but I don't mind.. it'll catch attention and I plan to make it a force to be reckoned with in Time attack
I hope to spend a lot more time with it at Mosport or TMP next year. So I am sure you'll see it!

lol None taken. I am not fond of the MX3 body styling. I prefer the MX6 I don't know if many people keep the 1.8L V6 or if they just do a straight ZE swap, that seems to be the most popular choice. I think I am going to search around and see if anyone has kept the 1.8L and done anything significant to the motor.

Sweet, sounds like it's gonna be a killer car.
As for the Ford/Mazda - to my knowledge Ford owns (or has owned at some recent point) about a third of Mazda, and a lot of cars were based off the same platform. The MX-6 shares a lot of parts with the Probe and also the RX-7. The flip-up headlights from a Probe are from the RX-7!
Think also Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape, which leads me to believe the part-ownership is still going on. I don't know for sure because I haven't read up on the subject recently.
Either way, from a manufacturing perspective, they can share costs that go into building the basics of their cars and then build them up as they like from there. And then, with parts interchangeability, parts between them should be cheaper and easier to come by! It's a win-win really, if you can get past the lack of total uniqueness.
Anyway, enough off topic, lets see some more pics of the car!

A good friend of mine has done some photo chopping for me and after giving him the specs, this is what my car should look like exterior wise when it's done.
Some of the differences though will be the side mirror's wrapped in dry carbon, OEM style, Rims will have the red lettering instead of the blue, different lip kit, OEM spoiler, JDM Projector headlights, Front bumper lights will still be on the car... We tried to get as close to the OEM colour as possible.
What do ya think?

Lol, It was only a matter of time till someone got over protective about this thread and misinterpreted something. Sorry to OP if I offended you (hopefully you can understand the context I used "man"in and won't give a ----).

Re: MX6 Build (56k Warning)
Wow it has been a long time, completely forgot I had an account. Ha. So a BIG update!
I had the EG for a few months but I got bored with it after I did some body work and then figured out why it won't turn over, so I parted it out and sent it for scrap and started putting the MX6 back together with some parts I had sold that I tracked down and bought back (lucky!) and some new parts..
- OE Spec Exedy Slave Cylinder
- Low Mileage Clutch/Brake Res. & Booster
- Black Interior Pieces (Door panels, Misc. Panels, Cloth bucket seats, etc..)
- Re installed Civic STS w/ new Bushings
- Replaced exhaust manifold gaskets & hardware
- Replaced entire exhaust with new piping from Y-pipe back
- Single stainless tip
- Magnaflow muffler (Old one)
- Rebuilt rear calipers
- Painted calipers satin black
- PBR Blank Rotors
- PBR/Axxis Pads
- New Walker O2 sensors
- Custom transparent red usdm tail lights
- New battery + Terminals
... That's it I think?
Now for the more recent things..
- Yonaka Adjustable Coilovers (Aww yeah)
- 93 LS Daisies/Sunflowers whatever they are called wheels.. 15s w/ crappy all seasons.
Painted them black, I thought they were hideous stock colour (silver).
- Stainless single tip
- JDM Mazdaspeed3 Shift Boot
- Painted headliner black
That's it for now! I had mudflaps on it after it was lowered but the scraping was annoying and it just looks cleaner without them.
