lol GG quarter panels ...

ok so decided to patch up rusty/bubly QP's .. turns out the kid fiberglassed it b4 so i had to strip it/cut it to sheet metal which is like 6-10 inches out from the wheelwell... not fun at all. Part of the frame & wheelwell broke off on the driver's side making things extremely difficult.. The passenger side is not as bad since the FB can have something to hold to. Will bring the car to my shop next week and prolly do a DIY on this if anyone is interested. ATM i used bondo its all i had around the house (filler) which i highly dont recommend for any job. its just so i can move it without getting 2 much heat from cops i dont have insurance on it ^_^

hollyyy fkkk buddy, is the car really worth all the repairs?

Bedros 10-22-2009 10:43 AM

very big job you got their but looks like a cool project

BoSsMoN 10-23-2009 12:11 AM

Yeah I'm all for a DIY on this I love reading project logs on integras.

Neon_Dave 10-23-2009 05:19 PM

Can you see through to the other side?

Don't you just hate it when the previous owner does a hack job of a repair? Many little things are that way on my car, it bothers me. The more I do work myself the more stupid little things I find. Monkeys could do better work for some of the things I've found. Thankfully, nothing big has come up. It's sound otherwise.

Good luck on your project, it's always good to see someone reviving an integra rather than dumping it.

Spike 10-24-2009 06:09 AM

Yeah that's pretty bad, but there are some things you should just leave to the pro's to do, and doing that ---- is one of those things I rather not do, even tho I can do it, just way easyer letting a shop do it.

XNXIXTXRXOX 10-24-2009 09:27 AM

you should have just bought a quarter panel repair piece off ebay or somewhere. i bought one for my civic before and it was great. completely fitted and just bare sheet metal. only thing tho is you have to weld it. but it would be a lot easier and better in the long run.
i hope your putting metal there right??

sashakthx 10-24-2009 07:20 PM

yeah metal is going in all FB is going out. and yeah i work at a bodyshop but we mainly do dealer cars & collision work not rust especially like this .. im sending it to a good friend to fabricate a metal peiece for both sides and then prep it after myself or my coworker. Im also making them QP's fat i hope it looks aiite on a teg lol with 15's should turn out alright..

sashakthx 10-29-2009 08:06 PM

Neon_Dave 10-31-2009 05:49 PM

Good stuff, how are you finding working with the filler in this weather? I'm planning to go a bit of filling on one of the cars before the winter hits.

Looks like a solid project so far.

sashakthx 11-03-2009 07:49 PM

So finally got a day where it wasn't too busy so i started prepping the teg. Two quarter panels, two doors, fender, trunk, bumper. Started off by grinding it down

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7767/img4802b.jpg
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/511/img4803l.jpg

Taking pics in the shop isn't the neatest thing
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/1033/img4804b.jpg

Filled with superglass
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5099/img4806y.jpg

Cheesed, grinded / sanded with 40
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/3183/img4807b.jpg
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6726/img4808a.jpg

Mixing lightweight filler
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5664/img4809k.jpg

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/9039/img4810k.jpg

Filled / sanded
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/4830/img4811c.jpg

Some evercoat rage / filler at this stage i think
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/557/img4812o.jpg

Another area being assesed. (TYK previous owner fiberglassed it. ;()
Word of advice, if you're shaving side mold's
please do not fiberglass matt it. Simply sink it with a dolly and fill it with
glass filler. http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/2002/img4814i.jpg

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/6378/img4815e.jpg

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7933/img4816t.jpg

Grinded, sinked holes and filled with superglass.
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/8783/img4817.jpg

Fender slightly was damaged/bubbling so might as well take care of that now.
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2936/img4818.jpg

Another side sinked and filled as well.
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/9223/img4819sy.jpg

Trunk holes were also fg matted, lol, so same procedure. Grinded, sinked,
filled.

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4666/img4821n.jpg

Fender

Getting there, putty with some filler
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/9793/img4824.jpg
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/2001/img4825.jpg

Sanded the glass, put lightweight filler over, sanded.
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7684/img4826.jpg
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/2042/img4827.jpg

Fixing some high spots.
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/1752/img4828a.jpg
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/3791/img4829e.jpg

chessed / grinded ( ran out of 40 grit ) / sanded
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/3271/img4823p.jpg

Lightweight filler, almost there
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/2227/img4830n.jpg

Hmm

Some of the tools ^_^
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/9168/img4832g.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/1079/img4848g.jpg

This was a fun project, but, shows how a small job can go far. If you don't know much about bodywork, you will, in the end pay someone else not to only finish the initial damage but cleaning the mess of your work :)

Will give you guys the paint tips and which paint / clear / gun im using when i spray it.

gottalovetheteg 11-04-2009 09:09 PM

Wow man, good job, this thread keeps amazing me (Y)

i know !! :( also i dont know if its visible in pics but on the sideskirt where it meets the QP its a little in. if i had more time i'd shape the qp in one piece rather then several ;((
