Default Crazy Fricken Zermans.

Wolfsburg, Germany - Volkswagen unveiled a GTI concept car with a 640-hp W12-cylinder engine at an annual GTI club event in Austria on the weekend. The GTI W12-650 has a 6.0-litre bi-turbo W12 engine and six-speed automatic transmission mounted longitudinally behind the driver and front passenger. 0 to 100 km/h is reputed to take just 3.7 seconds and top speed is 325 km/h.

Klaus Bischoff, Director of Volkswagen Design, said, "Our greatest challenge was to provide the six-litre mid-engine with sufficient air, without watering down the GTI's side profile. In addition, provisions had to be made for sufficient downforce at the rear axle on such a fast type of car. But for aesthetic reasons we did not want to put an enormous rear spoiler on the car."

Putting big *** engines in compact cars has been a culture for european automakers for decades now. I read that this GTI is gonna be a limited edition car for 250K euros.

I think it looks decent... a little over the top but nice....

her is a link to more hi-res pics and a video - http://www.dieselstation.com/news/au...i-w12-650.html

"this speaks volumes to the fact tht VW is making efforts to go over the top, unexpectedly, spectacularly directly at the real VW fans...."

"if that happened VW would gain serious respect no advertising can buy"

"My applause to VW for continuing to push the limits, some people don't like it and to be honest you will never satisfy those people, back in they day people wanted an engine more powerful than the 2.0 and possibly turbo so they give u the 1.8t, people complained about it. Then people in the states wanted an awd vw similar to the rallye of old, they give you the R32 "still people complained about it". People then said our cars were underpowered, so VW goes way overboard and gives us this, and what do you know people still complain"
