Looking good. What are you getting done? Just a respray plus bodywork or anything more extravagant?

marty18 09-06-2006 06:52 PM

Oh man. Those rims & interior are going to be a bitch to clean up afterwards. :(

Trenell couldn't you borrow steelies from someone just to bring it to the bodyshop or what?

JEFFOS69 09-06-2006 06:59 PM

What colour?

Simo 09-06-2006 07:02 PM

what kind of yellow/beige paint is that?

born2board69 09-06-2006 07:28 PM

thats sweet, but i cant believe it, lol i went for body shop quotes today. We just keep doing the sameee thing. haha

Reza 09-06-2006 07:49 PM

dc24me 09-06-2006 08:21 PM

^^he's probably referring to the other end, inside the side sill...

Solid GSR YO 09-06-2006 08:29 PM

damn it's gonna look sweet :)

Blue Dragon 09-06-2006 08:48 PM

are you getting all the rust fixed? I really hate how body shops get dust all over your interior

esguerra 09-06-2006 10:40 PM

^ dust is a biatch!!

i dont know T, but from the looks of the pics, the rust in the rear fender looks like it may pop back up in maybe a year or so!!!

Stealth1 09-06-2006 11:26 PM

Where is this getting done?

RED GSR 92 09-06-2006 11:56 PM

Hey how come they dont remove taillights, mirrors and 1/4 windowmoldg.?
From what i see there is a lots of Bondo. :(

FuzzyLS BRO 09-07-2006 12:42 AM

hey T, shave the antenna, and the rear squirter one time, trust me, i wish i rememberd to do that ----. and clean your interior! (first time i can say that to jOO! :P)

WildoutWhiteGSR 09-07-2006 01:15 AM

Tony: Respray plus body work.

Marty: Rims is gonna be easy to clean. That's only about a weeks worth of dirt. For most people a months worth. Interior won't be too bad, it just sucks that it was mint before it went in.

Jeff: Same frost white

Simo: it's not paint or primer ;)

Reza: The other side has no rust, I know it's still on in the pics, but I've checked personally myself before hand.

Wayne: There is no fixing rust, but I know what you mean. So far the sideskirt part was grinded then cut and welded. I'm not sure what they're gonna do about the inner lip on the quarter though. In all honestly, I could care less.

Jay: Only time will tell, but from my experience rust always returns. If not in the same place, somewhere else.

Stealth1: Velocity Autobody

Mane: They're painting seperate doors and mirrors. You didn't think I'd have the rear mouldings shaved and not the doors? They will remove the taillights, when they paint. It's only masked to avoid scuffing the lense cover during prep work. I'll ask them if they'll remove the 1/4 moulding, but from my research they can't re-use it and if that's the case, I'd rather them just do the stick a straw or something underneath to lift it up instead. So Mane your telling me bodyshops don't use "bondo" and if you think the yellowish stuff is bondo it isn't.

Fuzzy: NO....hahaha

PrincessS2K 09-07-2006 07:26 AM

Guys he's lying about the paint colour...he's actually painting it TEAL like Fuzzy's...they want to be twins...lol

It's forest green!

Big Hairy Gino 09-07-2006 11:40 AM

Dude, your gonna be like a kid on xmas morning when its done!

Too bad you couldnt source out the OEM sides and the 97 ITR lip in time. Unless you did?

Fresh paint, fresh motor, what else can you ask for! Cant wait to see it when I get back.

weiR 09-07-2006 01:53 PM

when i had my car painted they cut out all the rust and welded in new sheet metal, even along the bottom of the driver's side door. i rolled my fenders before it went for paint too, really glad i did that!

SIC1 09-07-2006 06:25 PM

Cant wait to see the fresh paint on sunday! Your interior is gonna need lots of TLC after everything is done. I hate cleaning up after getting the car back from the bodyshop.

VinceTEC 09-13-2006 09:09 AM

I dunno... I love cleaning my car after getting it back from the shop. It's kind of like the last step before the "new" car.

Plus, I hate when body shops clean cars anyways... they use the same dirty ass rag for everything! Them wiping and vacuuming just makes it worse, you have to do it again when you get home anyways.

Can't wait to see it at next meet's week Tren!

nautica_t YO 09-13-2006 09:43 AM

sweet T

can't wait to see it..

Buff4Prez Yo 09-13-2006 11:21 AM

WildoutWhiteGSR 09-13-2006 11:38 AM

^^^ yours is in the bodyshop too...sweet, post some pics

For the picky ones, the taillights are coming out and the driverside sideskirt is coming off as well before paint.

Then anyone that wants to check out the quarter panels can do so at the meets...cough cough Jeff ;)

nautica_t YO 09-13-2006 01:28 PM

Both

First year I got it, I had it oil sprayed. Second year stored due to not having insurance(remember that..lol)

This past year, motor build :D

flipmode1 09-13-2006 09:43 PM

+1! i wanna see how they did it. your car is gonna look amazing.

WildoutWhiteGSR 09-14-2006 04:55 PM

unfortunatly no pics of the metal work

they close at 6 and I usually get there by 5:40 so they're packing the cars away for the day, by then.

I wish I had a day off where I could go during the day and see them welding and ----. I mean I've seen them doing it, just not on my car :(

sucks I want my car back and I have to wait another week :( :( :(

T-bag, how far up did they cut and weld? or did they just do the lip?

WildoutWhiteGSR 09-14-2006 05:15 PM

I think they just did the lip. I can't tell without getting my head in the wheel well. When I got there, they had finished with putting the fiberglass over the welded area and was starting to cover the fiberglass with the "rage" (I believe it's called, Jeff would know) bodyfiller.

Surprisingly the worst spot on my car was here

Last Update before the final assembly

The Body's painted, along with the other small pieces. They forgot to paint the stock side skirt on the driverside  because it was going to be hidden under the wings west sideskirt, so he figured that it wouldn't matter. Just some miscommunication within the company, so that's going to be finished tomorrow before pick up.

For the quarter panel mouldings, they lifted up the moulding and stuck a straw underneath to hold it up, so I have no hard paint lines. Same goes for the front windsheild. The roof mouldings were taken off completely and the doors have no weather stripping on it at all. The taillights were taken out and have been replaced already in the pics. The mirrors, bumpers, and wings west sideskirts were all painted seperate from the car.

So far I haven't seen any over spray, but I'll check that in detail when I pick it up tomorrow. Quarters look decent, but I couldn't get down since it was wet outside so those as well will be inspected once I pick up the car.

Anyways on to the pics, if you have any questions just post, no secrets here it's all a learning experience.

Sorry to all those with slower internet and computers

Oh and the doors are slightly off by a hair in the pics, but during our conversation they tend to sag after a couple of weeks with the opening and closing. So he said if they don't and just so happen to stay exactly where they are, they'll adjust them again, so no worries there.

FuzzyLS BRO 09-18-2006 07:10 PM

looking good mang! welcome to the no side molding club :P
