2008 RSX Type R - 2.3L Turbo 280 HP
#4
I just had the article translated at work. It mentions that Honda is thinking of not stopping the Type R name keep for 2007, but rather introduce... are you ready a 2.3L (Reworked RDX engine) with standard AWD. The article mentions Honda would like to compete with Mitsu and Subi in this respect.
Wow, if only it were true - A Type R with 280 HP stock that is Turbo'd and AWD, I'd buy one.

Honda will not turbo-charge a car. I don't think they ever have and I doubt they ever will. They have built there reputation on reliability and fuel economy which does not fit the mould for boost. They have mastered the 4 cylinder motor and are coming out with some much improved V6 engines. I ask this, if they can get 240Hp out of a 2.4L 4 banger, dont you think they can design something similar for a sport coupe, that weighs less then the turbocharged competition? More power does not always mean more performance.
Furthermore, I've heard through the grapevine that the current RSX will be phased out by 2008, for a redesign or maybe even that and a name switch back to the Integra roots. Now I have no physical evidence of this, but that's what I've heard from friends and colleagues in the street scene.

^^^the rsx is dead after this year buddy.... we dont have to wait till 2008.
its not happening for one reason... honda has confirmed that 2006 will be the last year of production for the rsx/dc5.
i assume they'll introduce a new model to replace it, of the same genre... but probably not for a long while in north america... for north america, atleast for a while, the rsx will be replaced with a TSX Coupe, and a convertible. They dont want to take on suburu or mitsubishi as someone mentioned...rather, they wanna take on the likes of lexus, audi, etc with their acura model line ups... and there was no room for the rsx in there, especially since they now have the beefed up civic si as their flagship sport compact.

honda did build some production cars that were turboed from the factory.
there was the city from 1981 to 1987 and also some the first generation honda legends were equipped with a 2.0 sohc v6 that was also boosted for the 88-89 model year in japan.
