Exclamation ** Project Blackie** - Lots of Pics, DC4 CONTENT!!

** Long Read, but a deep one**

I'll re-introduce myself to some of the newer members that haven't met me, or haven't seen me around. My name is David. I am 19, and I love Integras. I don't really know what It is about them, just the way you feel in the drivers seat is something that hasn't been beat in any car I've driven around yet. Its the reason I cant get away from them. I purchased my first car when I was 17,and in highschool. I picked up a 95 VSM DC4. And what a beauty she was. I didn't know anything about the Honda scene back then, and I stayed pretty low key to everything. I finally got a few parts here and there, and I was starting to get hooked to looking at what your car was before, and what it was after a mod. CLICK HERE TO LOOK AT THE SILVER INTEGRA BUILD!!

Finally got around to my first TCC meet, and then my first cruise to Niagara Falls with Toronto Integras, Toronto Civics, and Team Integra. And ever since then I came through to every damn possible meet. Weather it was a meet in Burlington to meet up with a bunch of people, or if it was C7 to have an EPIC cruise, I was there.

CLICK HERE FOR PICS OF MY CAR THE FINAL DAY BEFORE IT ALL WENT DOWNHILL

Sadly my stupidity and me being so naive to what goes around with my car and around me made me make several mistakes. I got pulled for several reasons, stupid tickets, and lastly, a car inspection that ruined me after.
CLICK HERE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED

I made mistakes, and I fucked around too much, and it finally bit me back. During that time I had a rough few months. I ended up in the hospital for some serious stuff, I ended up losing a bunch of friends to stupidity,I was lossing a job, I dealt with various different losses, and then finally....I lost my Teg. It pretty much did it for me. I was in debt for money, the car had a bunch of things to be fixed, my insurance was super high, and the condition kept getting worse due to hack jobs, and not considering other things before just slapping on a part. So I decided from there not to get it fixed, because of some several other issues. I lost my car in April, several months went by. I sold a few parts here and there. And through this time of me not buying parts, and not paying for insurance and gas, i managed to save some money. July came, and I had decent money for another Teg. My goal was to get something cleaner than before now that I wasnt so naive. I went to look at over 10 different cars including several DC's, several 4 Door tegs, an EG, and an EK. I wasn't happy with ANY one of them. Either they were messed up in some sort of way that I didnt wanna deal with. Or when I test drove it they didnt feel right. I missed how aggresive my teg sounded from it being kinda beat, or how aggressive it felt and sounded when I floored it. Everything. I finally came across a clean one that caught my eye. A 2000 GS. Silver as well, leather interior, lowish clicks,no rust. Almost bought it, but i backed out the day before because i still wasnt sure if it was the right choice. After more months of me not doing anything, missing meets, missing helping out a few people, or even just chilling late and going for a cruise with some people, I couldn't take it. I looked at my bank account....then looked at my Teg. And I decided to restore it. Made plans and booked something at a paint shop to get it fixed, got a few things done so i can go back on the road, and got ready to get everything back to the way it was.

UNTIL, randomly on October 2nd....i decided to go online and say....hey...let me check out what cars are out there. I stumbled across something that caught my eye. A black 96 RS. Nothing special. Bone stock, non molested and a pretty ok body. I took her out for a spin....and I talked to the salesperson.....and I got a price i couldnt refuse. I wont mention how much I got her for, but lets just say it would be alot less than to do anything to my old teg. So what was there for me to do.............................buy it for cash the same day. I went on a gut feeling, and I don't regret it one bit. So then...after the dealer did the paperwork for me, got me new plates and ownership...i picked her up.

I'll let the pics do the talking

MY OLD DC, how she Looked before it all happened

AND HOW SHE LOOKS LIKE NOW

HELLO BLACKIE!!!!

Picking her up at the Dealer.

I loved it, being behind the steering wheel of a Teg hasnt felt any better.

Like, I said. The car was BONE stock. Hell, it still had the damn OEM tape deck. The interior is unbelievable well taken care of. And the whole car in general is amazing for the price I got it for.

So, it was time for me to stop driving the Corolla. It was an amazing car for the last 6 months, but I couldnt take sharing it with 2 people, and I couldnt stand the boringness of it.

And if you must ask........................................Yes, i put my GSR Blades on it for a while. I had civics pull up beside me and say what the fuuuuuuuck Lool

So. I present to you...my bone stock 96 DC4

I am more than happy with the purchase for various reasons.

1) when i first bought the car it did have issues. Like, the handbrake didnt work, I had clicking sounds in the rear, car felt sluggish. But as I talked to the dealer, he got it all fixed for me and I picked up on the Tuesday. First thing I noticed when I got her home was new spark plugs, and new NGK wires. Also, ebrake worked, and no clicking. As well as completely new exhaust piping...its still shiny as hell, and also new pads and rotors all around.

Bad Pic, but they were damn shiny as hell when I took off the wheels. One still had a sticker on it LOL.

So....since this teg hasnt been molested...what is one to do....but molest her.

GSR Blades vs Steelies & Hub caps

And now how she sits

And if you must ask....YES i did wetsand and polish the headlights after.

Then after, my 8000K HID kit

And now inside.

OEM TAPE DECK YO!.....with the cassette adapter to plug in my iTouch LOL

What I love about it is that the A/C actually works in this car. LOL, its the first car in my fams with working AC LOL

And now because im a ricer I put LED's in my cluster. * Look at my build thread posted above at what the end product is.*

LED bulb, VS shitty bulb with a condom LOL

AND FINALLY

There is STILL alot more parts to go in such as my 98-01 Tail lights, my Deck, my Subs, my SIR-G Fogs....as well as my good ol' trusty suspension. I just gotta clean up and polish up the LCA's again, and get some more things before I put it on. It probably wont go on till spring

. Why? lessons learned. if youre slammed in the winter and you got an ice block ahead and you go over it....chances are you'll get scrapes...and bad ones. Also want to do some upgrades on all the bushings. From my other teg I came across shot bushings after slamming the car on super old rubber bushings that had a ton of KMS. Also, upgrade ball joints.

SO either way wont put the suspension on until Spring so for now im riding like a tank.

I got a few more JDM goodies, spoilerless, as well as some UKDM/EDM goodies, and a bit of carbon fiber goodies

My life has been going in a better direction. Work has gotten better for me, my insurance went down by a lot, i have some good *** friends, and an awesome new car.

Keep watch at this build....lots more pics to come!

congrats! Glad to see you're back on the road in a car that you prefer. One question tho, is it still automagic?

Wow... great story.

I think every young, fresh car owner should read this thread. I see a lot of younger kids wanting to throw mods at their first car at the first chance they get and they don't like it or don't understand when I tell them not to...lol.

It's great to hear everything turned out well and you have a car you really like again, David.

It's also funny how we warm up to these cars. I feel the same way about my civic. I've driven many other cars, but I just feel so much better and "at home" in my own little honda. They are tin-cans by today's standards, yet there's just something about them and it becomes a part of you....

Glad to see this story has a happy ending.

I have a few goodies coming in, they should be here in a few days, as well as a few old parts being added now

So I did a bit more work today on the Teg today.

Decided to put on the 98-01 all red tailights. And also I got help from Ryan and got his USDM ITR door panels My old ones had slight bubbling and I wanted to keep the mint interior look.

I also got a few more stuff out of the old teg like the SIR-G Fogs, Amp, and deck.

Pics time

98-01 Tail lights

Drives side
*That white mark is the light....and yes I do need to vacuum the carpet lol

passenger side

Later on I started up the wiring to the center console for the Fogs. Didnt have a chance to install because Ryan cut to deep in the front bumper. Oh well, ---- happens, gonna have to figure out a way around it to put the fogs in

Pic of the OEM JDM Fog light switch.

Testing if the wiring is ok

Random car shots

4X4's!

AND THAT IS ALL FOR NOW. Until tomorrow

Lol nice story man , I hope Ur build goes nice and smooth, I bought my gsr bone stock , no mods and I've done mostly maintainence to mine, got it 6months ago and I've done ,water pump timing belt, cv boots, excedy clutch, rims and tires , hids , wet sanding my headlights and my side markers, getting the quarters fixed, new clutch master , I also experimented with my cluster and i love it, playing around with the LEDs . There are 3 main bulbs 2 on the left and right side of the cluster and 1 in the middle , what I did was kinda use 2 Bright white ones on the side and 1 blue one in the middle looks great , love playig around with LEDs , hope to hear more about ur build to perfection

Great comeback build. Lookin forward to see more.

One question is it a really bad idea to drive in the winter with coilovers? as long as you drive only when the roads are clear.

Man I havent updated this thread in a while Lool. I'll do a big update as soon as I have the time for another massive paragraph baha

As for the drive with coilovers. I don't like driving low anymore in the winter. Thats just me though. Coilovers get seized up if not taken care of right, its brutal to go up the driveway or out of it if the snow plow goes through the street , and i just dont wanna feel ice scraping the floor under my feet. Personal choice really. So yea, I guess every winter ill swap out the suspension and put in the stocks. Pain in the *** ...yes, but I'll just feel better doing it.

love driving on my coils in winter. I am like the good samaritan plowing all the neighborhood streets. Yes it was a pita with davids coils last summer, but whatever, coat the threads in either antiseize or the stuff i found to work best is truck 5th wheel grease [my dads a trucker and had some laying around] and it works perfectly!

And i guess update is coming once DTP comes out of hibernation mode?

The thicker Rust Check green works pretty good as well if you reapply once every couple months to be safe.

Lowered in the winter isn't as bad as it's cut out to be, so long as you're not full on slammed. I find with my grille I collect a lot of snow in the lower portion of the bumper. And the scraping everywhere goes without saying haha

That what i just used. LOVE that rust check goop! I drenched my coil-overs in that stuff yesterday, and i even used it on my old integras PIC suspension and no seizing, and no problems.

I read all those threads and WOW! Cops really messed you up, but it's nice to get a fresh start. I'm 18 and I own a black auto coupe! I don't plan on investing a lot of money into it because I need the money for school. I really like those GSR blades you have on them. If I drove a Cavalier I would ---- myself and drive away like an old man. Good luck on the blackie!

Alright. So it is now the end of April. And its time for an epic large update. LOL

Car has treated me good so far. Nothing really major to worry about other than bad ball joints going within the first month of owning the car...what can you expect when buying used. Also really weird fuel mileage that i'm still trying to sort out. Oh well. All in due time.

First things first, hit up Audio Heaven and added a few layers of security right after I bought the teg. My 2way alarm is annoying as ---- and its woken me up outta bed at 4 in the morning and tripped me the ---- out, but its all good. Security first!

Next, was some audio done by Audio Heaven again. my 2 Creative 12''s were just sitting here in my room and so I got Audio Heaven to do the wiring, add a new cap, and also a new Pioneer DEH-P4200UB. I LOVE THIS DECK!!! Output is amazing, my subs sound perfect with it.
let me just say that Audio Heaven is an amazing shop. Would definitely recommend it. Installation was clean and perfect to how I wanted it, alarm and security work is flawless, and car was left clean in tact after they worked on it. Ill be going back later to add tint in the future on my car and my moms.

Pics of deck and Cap.

Next up was cleaning up the Teg. I really gotta do this again in the next little while. My car felt and smelt great for weeks!!!! Thank you to Neon_Dave for helping me out!!

Then obviously some bad came out of it
My ball joints went mad retarded. They were brand new and they went creeking away within the first month as I mentioned earlier. I don't really expect dealers to be using expensive parts when they're getting the car ready for Safety but come on...really. Both ball joints were basically seized in there. So thats when you head over to DTP

And then winter mode came.

Well...there was never a summer mode. Just GSR Blades LOL. But meeeeeh, I'm bored and I have random pictures.

Amongst the fun things that happened in winter, car spun out on my way to work...im still confused as to wtf happened, but once trying to bring the car back straight on the road i took out a control arm on a curb . Pretty much cracked it and bent it in all over. Oh well, took it to the shop and got it on the road 3 hours later. No pics of that...Ill see if I can find one to show how retarded my wheel sat.

And thats basically it over winter.

Fast Forward to Spring

The car looks too boring looking like this

With the warmer days coming, something had to get done.

A stash of mini parts here and there came about over winter. Some new suspension goodies, as well as some JDM stuff from the far east.

First things first....standing 4x4 aint nice.

So...with Paul and Ziggy's help. The car got dropped.

REAR SUSPENSION CAME OUT PRETTY FREAKIN WELL!!

Then obviously put more anti-seize than humanly necessary
(more anti-seize was put on after this pic was taken LOL. Thanks Ryan for the Anti-seize when Ziggy didn't believe. LOL)

Surprised no bolts were broken....until one rear sway bar bolt broke. LOL, blame Paul for that. Oh well, ITR rear sway bar is going on soon

Unfortunately, after cleaning up the coilovers, I came across and issue. ONE rear coil was seized at the bottom cup for the height adjustment. Tried Penetrating fluid, brute force, and a lot of cussing, It just wouldn't budge. So it is stuck at the height it was at on the Old Teg. Kinda shitty. Option JDM cant sell individual coils so I'll have to order one in from Function and Form and pick up one. GRRR. Gonna have to see what else I can try. I may try a new suspension set up later on. Not sure yet.

Oh well.

Looks higher in pics :S Lol I remember when we lowered the front we were like " SHEEEEEIT" lool. Rear looks alot higher here....hmmm, looks pretty aggressive coming towards you though. Mudflaps scrape everywhere, love it.

And of course the going up the driveway pic.

A few more goodies are to be added to the teg in the next few weeks.

Also, an Si-Vtec front is ready to go on. Which consists of OEM Sir-G Fog Lights, Si-Vtec corner lights, JDM Sidemarkers, and an Si-Vtec lip. But all that is after something nicer.

So, i posted a lot of crap because I'm bored at home car less. Why? Car is getting a much needed make over. 15 years on a teg with 250xxxkms cant do any good to the body. Car was pretty clean overall for its age. But I just didn't like seeing the imperfections anymore. Rear quarters had rust, paint was faded like crazy on the roof and hood, broke the passenger side handle in half thanks to winter, drivers side was keyed, and it had more dents than a golf ball.

Earlier today I dropped the car off to get redone. Been getting quotes all over. Wasn't really looking for a "cheap" quote, more of a quality job. So I sent it to my buddy Emil's old work to get it done. Amongst the things getting done are: New quarter panels, shaving spoiler(i had a base rsx one on for some reason, holes were done badly and it was rusting), shaving the emblems, and antenna...and of course a new door handle. THANKS BOSSMON FOR THE DOOR HANDLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Car is getting a nice "european" black. Aiming for a really dark and shiny black. Porsche black sounded nice, so why not. Dropped the car off first thing this morning, and it should be out in 2 weeks tops. I'm really excited. Car should look pretty sick.

That's all the updates for now. I have Emil taking pics of the process as I cannot travel out east to go check on whats going on. So, pics shall be coming in soon of the progress.

Thanks for looking!

Looking good buddy! I'm excited to see the finished product. Call me up when you want another few weeks of clean and scented heaven in the interior haha.

The car's coming along fantastic David, if I may ask, have you gotten your ITR sway bar yet, and if so where/how much?

For sure man!!! I'm also gonna need some good advice on stuff to wash the car with after paint. as well as some new interior stuff.

As for ITR rear sway. I kept getting flops for the sway bar so I never got a chance to purchase it. Will be checking around again so I can get it in as soon as the car is out of the paint shop. BUT, a BNIB rear 98 ITR Spec sway bar with bushings and D brackets isn't that expensive. So Im sure we can find one locally for cheap.

I got several quotes before I got to my last one. My cheapest was 1800. The most expensive was 3000.

The cheapest was not really the greaaaaaaaaaatest place to go to. Would've looked ok, but not really sure if the quality was up there to do the whole car.
Indy charged me 3000. And frankly... im probably gonna regret not going there to get it done. The price included new window trims, new brackets where the bumper mounts, new bolts, new clips, all windows taken off, would've got a new windshield! Like...the amount of new is crazy! I would literally have 0 kms on the body. But I couldn't seem to put money to that. Wouldve literally been double what I bought my car for. Just couldn't seem to do it. I'm definitely going back to Indy for other things though....they may just help me source out some oem goodies

So as for price....im somewhere between that range

"Day 2"

So after dropping the car off on tuesday I realized I never had any actual "before" picture of what was BAD with the teg. thanks to my buddy Emil for taking some pics!!!!!!!! On day one basically all that was done was the car mounted on to the hoist and the front bumper taken off. Car was apparently so slammed that it was a mission to put it on the hoist. bahah

SO. Behold. all the imperfections of "Blackie"

I've been told about ~$80 for a used one local, JDM shops apparently see lots come and go. Just keep in mind you still need endlinks for that bar as the RS/LS/GS/GSR ones don't fit. I'm looking myself, goin to be doing a bit of suspension work this summer along with other, much bigger plans

Looking great so far man, I'm looking forward to seeing it in person when it's finally done. I would imagine you're getting anxious lol, I would be.

You have NO idea how anxious I am. Like...I keep bugging Emil for pics. And I called the shop earlier today to ask how its going. Prep for paint starts Monday. Should be primed and stuff then. Could be out as soon as Wednesday, or Friday Latest. Should be great!

And yea Dave, im gonna have to agree about sway bars at JDM shops. Its retarded how quick they sell. Hence why i really stopped looking at shop, and now I'm looking at private buyers. First things first, I need that camber kit after its out of paint, and then alignment asap.

Thanks Guys for the comments. We'll see what gets done next week.
