Default whinning sound

have a whining sound coming from the left side of the engine....engine is cold. whining sound comes at idle and at around 30 to 40 mph. Also at idle while it is whining no longer then 5 secs, once the accelerator is pressed the sound disappears but comes back at idle. This sound happens less as the engine warms up. i had all the belts changed not too long ago along with timing belt. Any ideas????

try belt-dressing? or, whatever they're called, you spray them on the belts...
did this happen after you changed all the belts?

It is most likely one of you belts. could be a pulley but probably the belt. Mine used to do the same thing for about 30 second when it started in the cold. My problem was the power sterring belt. Next time you start the car, turn the wheel all the way to one side until it lock and see if the noise gets really loud, If so then you probably have the same thing I did.

will try that out....also have noticed the whinning sound as i accelerate till about 40 then it goes away. Another problem is the car is taking a very long time to heat up...needle doesn't even start moving until 15 min into driving and even 30 min only goes up a quarter.

I have the same issue as bananas with regards to the whining noise this winter.

Also, I know for a fact that my car needs a new thermostat and your heating issue badbananas is most likely due to the thermostat as well.

LOL, Maybe that explains it.

Bananas, the whining might stop if you let you girl ride in the car with you instead of cramming her into the engine bay, its cold out there

I'm assuming you changed your water pump & coolant when you did the timing belt right? If so try bleeding your coolant to make sure air is not stuck in the system, If no air is trapped the heating issue is most likely your thermostat. The noise may also be from the waterpump, as that might explain why it goes away when the coolant temp warms up. Did you put in an OEM Waterpump?
