Whats The Regular Idle Rpm?

So i picked up a 94 ls teggy, I'm wondering what it should idle at? Currently it's idling(is that even a word, it looks better than idleing :jeez:) at 1500 rpm steady, doesn't fluctuate. is this normal? it just seemed alittle high to me.

cheers folks

1500RPM does sound a bit high for idle. It could really be something as simple as the throttle cable being too tight.

900

Check idel ajust screw on throtle body
Check for vacume leaks

For an LS idle should be 750rpm +/- 50rpm. Check for sticky or improperly adjusted throttle cable. A vacuum leak would cause the idle to go up and down repeatedly.

750rpm +/- 50rpm

how do u check vacuum leak ?

Gs-R-edline 09-05-2006 06:13 PM

A) Vac. gauge- connects in line, has a hand pump to create a vacuum and a gauge to see is the vacuum stays in the lines.

B) Hose engine bay down with carb cleaner....break cleaner in a grid like fashion,
(Engine will stall or choke out when you find the leak.)

C) Use an unlit gas torch spraying in a grid fashion (Rpm will increase when you find the leak)

might need to change your IAC(idle air control) valve or fast idle valve

Does it go down at all when the car warms up?
