Default What's the best "Drop" choice?

Hey All,
I'm thinking somewhere between 1.5" - 2.0" ?

I want a nice drop, but I still plan to use my car in the winter, as I don't have any choice. I can't be plowing snow, so no "Slamming" as of yet.

Thanks,
Mixed1

if your getting springs, and driving it in the winter, then do 2". just get coils, it makes life so much easier

Sorry, probably a "n3wb" question, but what's the difference between coils n springs?

coils are adjustable height, much stiffer = better handling. Springs are softer but depending on quality still handles good and comfortable.

Thanks,
I called up my Brother to ask him his opinion, he told me he had some before, but the only problem was that they would rust over the winter time and when he went back to lower them for the summer, he had some issues.

Any advice?

regardless of what you get coilovers, or lowering springs, they are going to rust during winter anyways. so your better off getting some cheap spings for like 80-100 bucks if you wanna drive during the winter. beats paying 1000 something for proper suspension and watching them rust away.

in my opinion, if I'm paying $1,000+, the springs better be stainless steel or at least some form of rust proof. I would just get springs, but the issue is the driving in the winter w/ snow. Perhaps I'll have to buy a winter beater.

nothing more then a 1.5" drop if you are going to drive it in the winter. A 2" drop will get you close to the tires, and then you will start blowing, try to find a cheap beater for the winter.

I drove my EG with 2" drop and 195/60r15's and had no problem. You could be the good samaritan and plow the road for others if you have a front lip. Otherwise take it off and it won't even be close.
I'm planning on driving with about 2.5" drop this winter, no lip.
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, you will not have problems, roads get cleaned up and as long as you have good winters you will pull yourself through any snow.

I've decided to go w/ Skunk2 lowering springs. They're 2.5"F / 2.25" R.

I do not have a front lip kit on my car currently, just stock.

I commute to work on major roads and highways, but I fear driving up North to visit the Family may be an issue, lol.

I hope you have aftermarket shocks. That's a very aggressive drop for a daily driver to be honest.
Winter wise you're fine, just remember when u rust proof, do the springs as well. Saves it from rusting faster.

Good luck and show some pics man

Yeah,
After reading up I was advised to invest in some new shocks to suit compliment the springs. I'm thinking I might wait until after the winter hits. Gives me a fresh start on the season w/ some rims and also lets me see if she makes it thru the winter *knocks on wood*. lol.

I have always ran stock shocks with my cars, and they have all been around 2.5" drop, and never blow one yet, lol, knock on wood.

The other thing you could do to keep your suspension from rusting is to replace the stock shocks with coilovers and keep the stock ones for winter. So when winter comes around, install the stockers, and then when the winter is over, then reinstall the summer stuff. I've been quoted $60-100 for such a job. Not too big a deal this way. It really is a shame to destroy a wicked set of coils.

it really depends what you want to do in the future with the car, if you plan on slamming it, why buy just springs now, to sell them later and buy coils, like someone mentioned, buy coils, and keep the stockers for winter...switch it out, you could even do it yourself if your mechanically inclined

I'm in Hamilton parting my 91 LS 2-dr. I have a set of new (<5k) KYB Gr2 with lightly used Eibach ProKit (1.8f/1.4r, I think?)
Interested? E-mail me at diamondstuddedbumblebee@gmail.com or call my cell at 905-730-2635, leave message with number if you don't get me.

What are these worth people?

I don't think these will be of much use to me unfortunately? Unless they fit a DC4.

im thinking about lowering my car also, just got new bigger tires and rims replacing my stock ones. i dont know much about lowering cars and i just bought my teggy 2 months ago, but ive done a lot of research so far and im leaning towards coilovers and about a 1.5" drop. what do you guys think? any suggestions?

^^coilovers and a 1.5" drop? What? If I had money for full coilovers I would be scraping the ground at 4" drop lol. Well maybe not that intense but 3" atleast. My 2.5" drop still looks like an off-roader. If you are going for 1.5" drop save some money and buy some springs. You won't even really need to upgrade the struts.

hmm interesting. how will the ride quality be affected though, if i only get lowering springs and nothing else?

the only other thing is with coilovers i can always adjust the drop later on if i want it lower... which might be the case.. (after the winter)

yeah thats true. coils are pretty pricey if you are just looking for a small drop like that.

buying a set of skunk2's soon at a 2.5 drop. (but then again my car is off the road in winter)
