Hi all, I just picked up my teg 3 days ago ( 1999 SE 5 spd ) lovin it so far. Anyway I went into Walmart to do an oil change after work tonight. Well I drive off everything is fine, I get home and decide to change my air filter, well its friggin hard to get the new filter on the rubber pipe so i decide to get a dab of oil from the dipstick. Then I notice the oil level is a full inch above the second circle! Isnt the second circle full? Would it be ok to drive like this or should i go back and tell them to drain some?

Sorry for this pain in the *** the question, Im a little worried new car and all...

 

yep they overfilled it, go back and raise some ----

 

Ok thanks thats pretty messed up they didnt even bother checking the dipstick. Careless ******..

On a side note what would you guy recommend as far as an intake goes? K&N drop in with/without resonator or a full CAI?

Looking for some much needed grunt first and a better sound second ( but not cop attracting loud )

thats what u get for taking ur car to an "oilchange only shop". cuz their a bunch of 16-18 year old doing it for you.

but was ur car in an even, straight road?

 

you could always do your own oil changes. then you dont have to worry about this crap. I usually put in about 5 liters to fill my engine to 2nd line.

normally, the fill up is something like 4.2 or 4.3 litres / quarts

 

5 liters is too much

 

unless you're going for track day..lol.a lil bit of extra is oil is not that bad for those who don't want to slip out of vtec due to oil starvation and the burning of oil as well.

Ls motors take 3.8-4 litres of oil. go back and have them fix it.

i got my oil changed and the moron didn't tighten the filter tight enough, i was getting a drip so i took it back and they fixed it.

i put in 3 litres..because i m gangster like that ..... hmmmm so that dipstick in the front of the engine is to check oil ..i thought it was for the tire pressure

 

DID u check the oil when the car was off? i donon some ppl dont and wonder why theres oil all over the stick.

 

I always put about 5L with my K&N filter. it just meets 2nd line.

 

Some motors are designed to have the crank shaft dip into the oil in the oil pan. From my understanding, Honda's are not. Excess oil can increase the strain on the crank as it smashes into the oil. The other downside of over-filling is more oil will go into your intake through the valve cover breather into your intake. You can check the TB for oil deposits. If it's bad enough it can damage the sensors in your IM. A good spray with TB might be good insurance if you notice it's covered in oil. Though it doesn't seem to me there's any long term damage to the motor. As for over-filling it at the track - an engineer at our club measured that you can go as much as 4mm above full. The problem is the oil level changes at the track since oil tends to climb up to the head a lot and heat can give you a false reading. I try to keep it at or just under the full mark, but my engine carries an extra 2L of oil with the cooler so I know the car always has oil in it. Plus, a Mugen oil pan is worth its weight in gold for track use. I once left a Mr. Lube where they put 8L in my car. They didn't drain the old oil out, just added new oil. Thankfully I checked it when I got home. Man that really pissed me off - did I ever raise a stink.

 

Well I went back and raised a stink, turned out not ony was it over-filled but they used the wrong oil and the guy didnt even tighten my drain bolt properly so it was dripping out the oil pan!

So they basically did a whole new oil change. The guy that did it admitted the dude that did it the first time was sloppy and lazy.

The walmart service manager called me back and guess what he offered me? A free oil change! ahahahah, I told him I would never go back there, so he then offered me a $25 walmart gift card. I said no way would that cover this. So he is taking it up higher up the chain to see what they can do.

I had a funny feeling about there going there for service, now I know why..lol

 

negatory. i am sorry, but i simply cannot resist replying to this.

a "lil bit" of extra oil is definitly an all around bad idea.. especially for the track! oil airates due to the connecting rod slapping against the top surface of the oil. just like the way milk turns frothy when u shake it in a jar. imagine that at higher speeds on a track? and whats wrong with that? well, the oil pump doesnt work well with milkshakey oil. therefore, the oil cannot lubricate certain parts of the engine. the only way you'll "starve" the engine is by actually puttin in more oil. slipping out of v-tec due to oil starvation is a bold statement IMO...

When i Went to Wal Mart for an oil change they forgot to put my oil cap back on.... oil all over the underside of the hood sure does look purdy :dunno:
