tweeter question
I have been looking for speakers for my car and came across complete component speakers however I am not sure about the tweeters that they come with, as I am little hesitant to make holes.
On the Civic Si, they have small tweeters on the corner of the quarter panel plastic. Would I be able to find something like that for a teg?
Also, how is a component speaker different from a 3-way speaker?

Most component sets come with different mounting kits for the tweeter... ones that need to be installed flush into the door panels and ones that angle the tweeter out and just need 2 small holes drilled. The ones that stick out and only need small holes can be installed in the inner side view mirror cover (like the Civic Si), and if you ever want to take out the tweeters, you can replace those covers for like $15 each from the dealer.
As for the differences, component sets come with a seperate tweeter, mid-bass woofer, and cross-over. 2- or 3-way coaxial speakers have everything built in.
When you use a coaxial speaker, the entire sound range is coming out of the same area, making it harder for your ear to interpret the sound. As well, with a coaxial speaker, the tweeter is typically small and it takes away from the surface area of the woofer... meaning less bass response.
With a component package, the tweeter is usually around 1" and completely seperate... creating a crisper, cleaner sound. The woofer maximizes the surface area of the 5.25" or 6.5" size. The crossover is the biggest difference... a crossover accepts the speaker input from the amplifier and sends only the proper range of sound to the proper speaker. The higher hertz go straight to the tweeter, while the lower range goes to the mid-bass woofer... so you don't get as many voices in the woofer and you don't get any bass in the tweeter.
