Default Timing Belt

How can you tell if your timing belt needs changed? Will it damage my engine if it is allmost worn?

My manual says change at 90,000, I bought the car used and it has 171,000 and no proof of that being changed....

ya you're better off changing it cuz if that thing snaps, you might be looking at a new motor or a head rebuild

Have you guys changed yours for no reason?
I'm not having any problems, but I have been told it may damage your engine if it's worn almost, but for $500.00 I think I wanna know it needs to be changed before I do so....

Yup, I bought my car at 160,000kms and I changed it.

Why risk $500 when your engines $2000+

^^^ Just make sure you have a compressor, if you plan do it yourself.

They have actually raised the timing belt change to 160K but just like any other maintainence.... Pay little now or pay a lot later on.

Alright, thanks!

I think I'll get it in to get that changed..... they say I get a new water pump and all other belts too for $500, so it'll give me peace of mind....

Do you know the signs of it going?

^^^ not quite dude... besides, its not like u can examine ur timing belt to a point where u know its true condition... thing is pretty much outta reach... when i did my integra, i did it at 120k, and there were no signs of ----... its just one of those very few things you gotta bite the bullet and do, regardless of how ur car's running
