Default Timing

I have two questions:

1) How can you check and fix your timing on 98 GSR
2) When I’m driving my car and I want to accelerator the rpm goes off the grid almost back to 1,000 rpm.

What should I do?

Thanks guys

yes, i wouldn't suggest touching the distributor without a timing light. You adjust the ignition timing by rotating the distributor, retard by turning towards the rad, advance by turning towards the firewall. I would set your base timing to 16 degrees BTDC.
You need to explain your problem a little better.

theres a mark on your lower timing belt cover on the front(towards the rad support) side of the upper mount, i believe. Your going to want to set it to 16btdc like zeeman said. If you have a digital timing gun its much better (i have one you can use, im in oakville) its easier because you can set it to 0 bdtc which is easier to see then guessing between 14 and 18deg. (the two red, green marks)
