Default Time for waste 110K maintenance....

title typo: "Time for 110K maintenance"

Overdue maintenance that is.

Timing Belt and Water Pump... and I guess some TLC. So to plan for this maintenance, where do you guys recommend I go for this service, how much dollar bills much I allocate, approx?

Also.. the freaking heat shield is starting to rattle at a certain RPM. Would removing the heat shield cause any problems?

(btw.. its a 2k1 GSR)

Thx.

For the 100k maintenance I usually like to do a full tune-up (if not already done so) Wires, plugs, cap, rotor, pcv valve, fuel filter, valve adjustment.

I also check fluids, usually I recommend a tranny flush and fill at this point (if not already done) and obviously if you are doing the water pump, the coolant is being flushed.

For a TB and water-pump job except about $400-$500 with labour and parts. Anything below $400 is a very good price, but I'd be a bit weary of leaving that type of job to a "cheap" mechanic. I've seen a lot of problems after timing belt jobs. Coolant leaks after a few K, timing belt is noisy, cam timing is off, etc.

I'm actually doing a timing belt as a side-job in an hour or so for a SOHC. The cust. is paying me a tad over $320 for the job, which IMO is very cheap for that job. So shop around.. and talk to people who have had experience with certain shops.
