Default Thoughts on swapping shells

Hey all, just wanted to ask some opinions here...

My rear quarters have some rust on them and I want to get them cut out and replaced. Im getting really high quotes on them [$1000-$1500] and was thinking it might be better to swap just the whole shell.

Anyone think this is a good/better/worse idea? I feel like it might be better... My car got hit a few weeks back in my rear drivers qaurter and with my cash settlement [which was peanuts] from the insurance company I have about a grand to play with. They also said they would provide a rental car for me as long as it's in the shop. Im looking at Kijiji and can find a pretty damn clean shell for <$1000 and just swap everything over from my current car in a weekend or so.

Any tips? Suggestions? I really want to keep my Integra. Ive recently replaced the gas tank, brake and fuel lines which won't be very easy to swap would it?... I've done an engine swap so I know what Im doing there.

Thanks!

Swapping everything from one shell to another is that much work at all. Well it is but a lot of fun lol. Like you said you can find clean shells for just over $1000. And don't have to worry about body work. You say your quarters are bad okay you fix them but what else might come up (body wise) if you got a strong shell to begin with then you won't have to worry about the body. I bet it's hard getting rid of the shell but the heart can be transplanted and pretty much still be the same car.

The body is the ONLY thing really wrong with my car currently.. New gas tank, new lines, new doors and hatch just put on...so just the quarters!

The other day I was so mad with the amount I was quoted, I almost just drove to the dealership to buy a new car lol... but on the way, I fell in love with my Integra again. Its a love hate relationship for sure hahaha...

I just wish there was better deals for quarters. Id rather put the money there and not lose on so much other stuff I can't just swap over

I unno man. You're probably spending more money swapping and buying the new shell itself. Let alone, new car problems.

Id just fix the quarters to be honest.

+1 What Vida said, new car problems alone are what would scare me the most, but it really DOES depend on how bad your current shell is. Is the damage so bad that the time in labor alone going to kill you? Have you dumped a certain amount of money into you're current car (i.e like bushings, seals to like motor tranny) all those little things + big things add up. So before jumping on kijiji or w.e I would make a calculated guess as to how much it'll be to keep you're current shell and just dumped the 1-2k on that or spend it on a new shell (which could be fine or have problems). But regardless, tell us your decision! We're not here to judge but to help! Good luck man

Yeah for sure... I totally agree. Just havent found a body shop to do my quarters for a decent price. I have dumped TONS of money into my current Integra too...New gas tank, new brake and fuel lines, whole new front end (bearings, ball joints etc,) but those can be swapped over. The only parts that cant very easy is the gas tank and lines ive replaced. Theres also the new car problems, you're right.

So what does everyone else do when their Integra gets bad quarters? Seems a huge problem and no one has replacement patch panels or replacement ones?

okay if you have put money into your current car maybe it would be a good idea to fix it. is it just the quarters that are bad or does the body have more issues?

Like Malice said to respray and get new metal put in looking around 2000-3000 depending where you go...buying new shell$1000 swapping everything over such as motor $500-800 depending where you go, or if you do it yourself. your looking roughly same price really...
It's a tough decision man.

Very tough since the money I have in the car currently... only the quarters really, ht erest I mean the paint isnt amazing but by far in great shape. Because of the guy hitting me, the drivers quarter is a hole now....

Thats the drivers side... I dont care about painting the car until spring anyways, and I dont have a restriction on time for that. Just the quarters. I might have to find a shell and cut them out, and part the rest like Malice is suggesting. I dont have the room so this is a warning for anyone who wants to make quick money and a guaranteed sale! haha

Dam those quarters are gone. Looks like some rust water lines coming from the mouldings as well. Might have to cut out a real big piece. Could be done is just comes to how muh it's going to cost

I might try my "metal" sculpting on it and do some backyard bodywork. But I doubt it...

Looking to possibly finance just a new RSX or something haha. Im dumping in $250 a month anyways as it goes...
