Default SRS light

Im so irritated.. my srs light came on.... tried the reset trick..didnt work.. did the cel trick and got 5-2 code..which indicates internal unit failure..

do any of the member have experience with this?... the unit brand new is too expensive...same price as a turbo..lol... but if i grab a used one.. is it a plug and play?.. any info?..

If its not battery voltage. I believe the air bags and seat belts are warrantied by honda for life? I unno. Can't remember where i read that. Might have been the owners manual

Is it the airbag or clock spring unit that's failed?

Either way, I've had both replaced and it's not terribly expensive in my experience, even with new parts from Honda

i diagnosed it..and 5 long and 2 short lights..which mean 5-2 which is internal unit failure...i am assuming its the srs console unit under the dash...

dave.. was it difficult?... disconnect the battery, take out the fuse and then replace the unit? and undo?.. i read helms and it was saying..to put the "red" connector in the air bag first to disconnect the airbag..but is it necessary as the battery will be off and also the fuse?

might head down to a junkyrad tomorrow.. and look for a teg that has an intact srs.

update... problem solved.. replaced the srs unit with a 1998 unit... all 1996+ can be interchangeable... cheaper than i thought.. as long as the one your replacing it, didnt deploy the airbags... your good...

Glad to hear that. I have the same problem with my accord. Srs light is on don't know if there is still airbags. If you don't mind sharing how much did the unit cost you?

the unit cost me 20$...just grab one at a junkyard as long as the car didnt get hit or anything it should be good... try the resetting trick with the paper clip to see if you can just reset the srs.. if dat doesnt work.. do the paper clip trick on the ecu thing and diagnose it yourself.. it could be the clock spring or something else...

I'm glad to hear that you sorted it out

My teg's clock spring failed internally and caused the airbag to go as well.. I had those changed a while back and it ain't cheap lol.
