Default Speedo Cable Install

Ok boys and Girls, my speedo cable has finally screwed me for the last time and now i have no speed registering and engine light on. Im picking one up from Acura, the last one in stock too lol. My question for you guys is, is there some sort of DIY or has anybody here done it before? Im more curious about the engine bay part where the cable snaps to the tranny, the cluster part is easy ive already opened that up no problem. Im hoping to do it before the cottage weekend coming up since id like to take my car up. Dave being the nice guy he is has already given me the jist of it(tnks Dave!), but i wanted some more detailed help before attempting it in my driveway. Any help would be appreciated guys, tnks!

if u follow ur speedo cable from ur firewall to ur tranny there is a rubber cover at the end of the cable, just pull that rubber up, then ull see a fine clip. just slide the clip out and DO NOT LOSE THAT CLIP its very small. and the cable slides right out, behind the cluster u just release the other end from the connector, and u gota get under ur leg panel and ull see the cable there, theres a clip holding it down you will have to cut it otherwise you wont get the cable out and keep wondering y it wont come out, trust me i no happend to me to lol.
anyway thats pretty much it

to install
its easy if you send it through the inside of the car once the cable is in a fair distance snap in the connector to ur cluster, that way u wont hav to fight with the cable and cluster after so as you pull in ull pull in the cluster to but push cluster in by hand so you dont break the cable, dont forget to put the pin back in.
other than that its pretty easy .

anyquestions feel free to contact me

no
behind the cluster where the cable goes out there is a rubber gromet on the firewall in the engine bay,
the grommet is like a oval shape with the part where the cable passes through the rubber comes out a bit
the cable is right at the back of the tranny going straight down into the tranny,
there is only that 1 cable going into the tranny i beleive,

if you look at the firewall, around the middle, you will see a little "shift boot" looking piece of rubber. The cable that it covers is the speedo cable. Follow that cable down to the tranny. There is a little metal clip that holds it into place...looks kinda like this { but extended. Pull that clip out (DO NOT LOSE THIS), then pull out the cable.

On the back of the cluster is a plastic clip that holds in the cable. You should have some slack now that it's out of the tranny. You should see how to take it out (push down plastic pieces, just like a clothes pin).

I learned the hard way by yanking it out, and having to replace the speedo cable.

To do so, remove your old cable first (follow above instructions). If you look under the dash, you should see the light shine through the hole (if it's light outside, of course). Stick the end that goes in the tranny through the hole (wow that sounded ghey). It's a tight squeeze, but I'm a big guy and I managed to do it. The other end gets fed back up through the hole behind your cluster. Just remember where it was when you first pulled it out.

If you remebered to keep the clip, push the cable back into the tranny and clip. Or, if you did what I did and you lost it, black tape will do just fine. Make sure to get the area clean so that it has something to stick to.

If you ever pulled off you spedo cable from your tranny its cake work... Ill try to expalin as best as i can....

1. Find where your spedo cable goes into your tranny.. It has a rubber boot covering it.

2. Pull that rubber boot off and up towards the top of the engine (to get it out of the way)

3. There will be a small C type clip that holds the end of the spedo cable to the tranny.

4. Take that clip off with needle nose pliers, small screwdrive, etc. whatever you can get down there to get it off. DONT LOSE THE CLIP!!!.

5. Pull the end out of the tranny, GENTLY!

6. There will be the end of the spedo cable! NOW... start to pull the cable out of the sleeve... GENTLY!!! It might take a min or so to get it out from behind the dash... JUST BE PATIENT!!!

7. I cant remember if I took it all the way out or just most of the way but just get the majority of it out.

8. Find some of your special (hi-temp is good) greese out and put a light layer over the whole cable. DO NOT CAKE IT ON THERE!!!

9. Once that is done, gently start to push the cable back towards the firewall/dash.

10. when you get as far as it will go, twist it back and forth so you make sure it goes into the gauge cluster. It should be fairly easy and you should kind of feel it click in.

11. Now just reverse the beginning steps to attach it back to the tranny and VOILA!!! You should have a non-squeeling spedo cable!!! NOTE: The C type clip is kind of tricky to get back on... just be patient!

I hope that was understandable to you guys. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Ill do the best I can to help!!

better explanation if you need it

I vote that this should be stickied as a DIY guide for future reference.
