Default Somethings wrong here...

So I noticed after putting some parts under the hood my teg is eating alot of gas. I have reason to believe it's the tranny cause the gears are really long and most of my upgrades have been done to the exhaust (cam, wider piping etc..) but I could be wrong... could be something else causing the problem. I also noticed when the motor gets hot and I take off from 1st gear up a steep hill the car will stall unless I rev to at least 4000rpm where as before the new parts 1 and a half to 2000 would do it no problem. I just did a tune up and on this past tank of gas (full) I got 223km and that's driving incredibly easy cause with this tranny my car is getting smoked by minivans

What do you think it is?

Thanks in advance!

it's your cams man, i don't see how having your exhaust cam with longer duration while having a stock intake cam can let your motor run properley. actually, when you think about it, your exhaust valves will somewhat still be open while your intake valves are opening, that i think would cut down on vaccume pressure drasticley.

You should take it in. That doesn't sound like something you can deal with on the driveway. Check for black smoke coming out of the exhaust too. Might be running rich for some reason.

CJ check your oil pan gasket and your timing belt....who knows what it may be but stop driving it for now so you can see what's happening...

I changed the timing belt and waterpump when I put the tranny, clutch in. The car has alot more power in higher RPM but still crappy. I feel like the car has max power going down even the slightest hill. Seems like the strongest gear is 3rd. No black smoke but I do believe I was running rich even with my previous setup. My fuel management system had the wires cut at the ECU and the crane cam ignition was hooked up... now neither of the 2 are installed. That never caused much of a problem before but the car was still running rich. I believe I use to get 360km to a full tank.

Yah I hear ya Fuzz. I've been thinking that was the problem before the problem even started I told my brother in law one camshaft seemed a lil unorthodox and did'nt make much sense. He said he did it on his GSR for a lil bit and it caused no problems. I was thinking of just putting my B16 cams back in and leaving the cam gear on. You think this will help? I think the only way to figure out whats wrong is to drive the car, really hard to explain the overall feel of it.

Amanda i dont mean to be Rude but do you know anything about engines and how they work? What would Oil Gasket have to do with his problem? And if it was Timing Belt he wouldnt be able to drive. Cj would be looking for a new engine not a problem.

Sorry but i had to say this. Think before you reply.

i 2nd that post Mane.... and i would agree with fuzzy on this one... the one cam has a large dur and yes one set of valves will be open still when the other opens.. yeah everything does work hand and hand to cause ur KM/gas tank to go out the door... im sure one thing is that it seems like ur running rich at one end and lean at low end since u say that ur car seems to wanna stall .. but that is with all manual cars going up hill since u have to time the clutch release and gas push... as for oil gasket just do a check for ur self but no need too... timming might be off but nothing big to worry... just take it in but if u do get the proper cams in and not just one.... no half *** jobs.... what kind of tranny do u have in there now ??? if it was a ITR with short gears that might give some light but longer gears i say have no reason to be a factor.... what kind of mini vans u also running Turbo / NOS setup mini vans ... compare the weight of a van and of a g2 and ur manual unless u dont know how to shift no reason why a mini van is kicking ur ***..... just my 2 cents

^^ Great response

I was overlooking the fact that it could've been my cams. I got cheated for this tranny and thought it was the problem all along. I think I'll make a video tonight an you can all see how slow this teg really is, And about the mini-van that was no lie, I tried to take off and merge infront and this Dodge Caravan with Taz mudflaps just took off on me.

i say to fix this problem, put your stock B16 cams back in, if you only have one cam gear, do not advance/retard it. either put another one on and set it correctley, set the cam gear to stock specs, or just put back on the other stock cam gear. also remember that if both you valves are open, gas is escapeing out because the exhaust valves are still open, thus, your ecu will compensate hence the shitty gas mileage.
